Ili district is located in the southwestern part of Almaty region. The district was established in 1928. In 1997, the Kurtinsky rural district was attached to the district with the villages of Akshi, Kurt, the abolished Kurtinsky district. The administrative center is the village of Otegen Batyr. The territory of the district is 7.8 thousand square kilometers. In the district there are 10 rural and township districts, settlements 31, of which villages - 1, villages - 30.
