How to get an internship under “Bolashak” program?

JSC Center for International Programs started accepting documents for internships under the ‘Bolashak’ programme, which will be carried out until 17 October 2025. According to the Selection Rules, applicants may take internships of up to 12 months in foreign organisations on the basis of leading foreign higher education institutions included in the list of leading foreign higher education institutions, foreign organisations recommended for training, language courses by the winners of the competition, as well as recognised global, research centres, scientific organisations within research campaigns, sectoral organisations and in production.

In this material, we will consider who can apply for an internship to study abroad and how is a competitive selection going on?

 

Where to apply once a scholarship is awarded?

After you have been awarded the scholarship, you must: 1) Contact the Department of Claims and Contractual Support to conclude an internship agreement. Consultations on the procedure for concluding contracts by phone: 8 (7172) 76-90-76 (ext. 181, 183, 184);

After signing the contract, you need to contact the supervisor:

  1. Next, you must apply for a letter of guarantee (GP), an official document required for applying for a visa and submitting it to a foreign educational institution as proof of sponsorship. Since GP is a public service, the application is submitted personally to the Company or through a trusted person.;
  2. Before traveling abroad, you must issue a multicurrency payment bank card and send the information on the card account to the Financial Security Department.;
  3. After receiving the visa, you must send a scanned copy to the supervisor and contact the Financial Security Department by phone +7 (7172) 76 90 76 (ext. 200, 223) to reimburse expenses for the visa, medical insurance, air tickets, as well as making an advance payment;
  4. The scholarship is calculated according to the cost rates of the actual location and training, internship, language courses in the country of study according to the individual curriculum of the Scholarship Holder. Monthly payments for accommodation and meals are made from the 25th of the previous month to the 5th of the current month.;
  5. Upon arrival in the country of study, the Scholarship Holder must send the curator a Release Form (permission to provide information about the status and academic performance at the educational institution) and a questionnaire with up-to-date contact information in the country of study.;
  6. Within 15 calendar days from the start of the training, it is necessary to register at a foreign institution of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the host country and notify the Company within 7 working days from the date of registration.;
  7. Within 60 calendar days from the start of the scholarship, the Scholarship Holder must submit an individual curriculum to the Society for approval.
  8. During the study period, it is necessary to provide the Society with an extract on academic performance, an interim report and feedback from the internship supervisor based on the results of each interim academic period established by the Educational Institution (semester, trimester or academic year).
  9. Within 30 days from the date of completion of studies, return to the Republic of Kazakhstan, provide the Company with a copy of the passport with a note on entry into the Republic of Kazakhstan, an application for completion of studies, as well as notarized translations into the state or Russian language of the degree diploma and transcript for the entire period of study.

How to apply for participation in the program?

Acceptance of internship documents started on March 3, and applications will be accepted until October 17, 2025.

There is an approved list of documents for the internship programme. Documents are submitted through the Egov.kz e-government portal according to the following list:

  1. Identity card and passport;
  2. a document confirming an unconditional invitation from a foreign organization. The document must specify: the applicant's data, specialty, internship period, cost (with a transcript of calculations). The document is provided with a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian.;
  3. an employer's application for specialist training with the condition of retaining a job;
  4. Bachelor's/Specialist's degree with an appendix. In the case of studying at a foreign educational organization, a certificate of recognition and/or nostrification of an educational document or another document of recognition of an educational document.;
  5. a valid official certificate in the prescribed form on passing the exam in a foreign language with a result meeting the established minimum requirements;
  6. a valid official certificate of the prescribed form on passing the exam in the Kazakh language with a result meeting the established minimum requirements;
  7. medical certificate in the form 072/y for traveling abroad;
  8. documents confirming employment, as well as an extract of the listed mandatory pension contributions for the required period of employment;
  9. Internship program approved by the sending and receiving organizations for the internship. The document is provided with a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian.;
  10. motivation letter – an essay written in free form, no more than 500 words in length, in which the applicant justifies the chosen higher education institution and its advantages in this field, the need for this scholarship and the expected results of the acquired knowledge in the chosen field and their further application in practice in Kazakh or Russian. The motivation letter must be dated and signed at the end.

Who can apply for an internship under Bolashak program?

In 2025, the following categories have been approved for internships abroad:

  • Engineering and technical staff,
  • employees of the agro-industrial complex, specialists in artificial intelligence;
  • teachers of organizations of preschool, secondary, technical and vocational education, teachers and employees of organizations of higher and (or) postgraduate education;
  • Medical professionals;
  • Government employees;
  • Media workers;
  • Cultural, tourism and sports workers;
  • Judges and court staff.

The list of priority specialties for the internship includes 183 specialties.

Basic requirements for the candidates

Applicants for an internship must have:

  • an unconditional invitation (except for financial conditions) from a foreign organization hosting an internship;
  • total work experience of at least 3  years, including the last 12  months in the chosen area of specialization;
  • availability of a valid official certificate of passing the exam in the state language (KazTest or Qazaq Resmi Test) with a result of at least level B1;
  • the presence of a certificate of passing the exam in a foreign language with a result that meets the established minimum requirements;
  • an average score of a bachelor's or specialist's diploma is not taken into account;

Important! The fellows shall not provide any property as a collateral. It is enough to provide the orders of two guarantors, who could be the citizens of Kazakhstan under the age of 50 and have a steady income over the past 12 months.

What is KAZTEST and how to get it?

KAZTEST is a system for assessing the level of proficiency in the state language of citizens of Kazakhstan and foreign citizens operating in the territory of Kazakhstan.

The content structure of KAZTEST includes 5 blocks:

  • Listening - dialogues, monologues and 20 content assignments;
  • Vocabulary-grammatical structure - 40 tasks to determine the use of grammar, vocabulary;
  • Reading - texts of different content and style, includes 40 assignments;
  • Writing - written work such as dictation, outlining and essays depending on the level. The number of assignments varies from 2 to 3.
  • Speaking is a productive form of speech activity. The number of assignments varies from 1 to 2.

In order to receive a certificate for each block it is necessary to score the threshold points - 60% (listening - 12, lexico-grammatical structure - 24, reading - 24, writing - 30 points, speaking - 30 points).

The KAZTEST system certification testing takes place in the building of the National Testing Center. The state language proficiency assessment fee is 8,263 tenge.
