Pension provision in the Republic of Kazakhstan is carried out by the Social Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated April 20, 2023.

The retirement age is 63 years for men and 61 years  for women.

From 2023 to 2028, the "retirement" age of women will not change and will be 61 years. The maximum retirement age is 63 years, will be effective from 2031.

Let's calculate the age at which women in Kazakhstan can retire:

• from January 1 , 2023 – upon reaching the age of 61;
• from January 1, 2028 – upon reaching 61.5 years;
• from January 1, 2029 – upon reaching 62 years;
• from January 1, 2030 – upon reaching 62.5 years;
• from January 1, 2031 – upon reaching 63 years

Women who have given birth (adopted) 5 or more children and raised them up to the age of eight have the right to age pension payments upon reaching 53 years.

Let's find out what types of pension payments are available in Kazakhstan today and how to calculate them.

To begin with, we note that the pension of the people of Kazakhstan consists of three parts:

1. Basic pension is accrued to all citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan when they reach retirement age. The basic pension depends on the length of participation in the pension system. The minimum amount of the basic pension in 2026 is 35 596 tenge;
2. Solidary pension – is paid to citizens who have at least 6 months of work experience, worked out before January 1, 1998. The amount depends on the length of service and average monthly income. The minimum solidary pension in 2026 with full service is 69,049 tenge.
3. Accumulative pension – is paid out of individual pension savings of citizens, and depends on the amount of funds accumulated by them. The more savings, the bigger the pension.

Kazakhstanis who retired before the introduction of mandatory pension contributions receive basic and contributory pensions. 

The amount of the pension will depend on your work experience, the average monthly.

With the transition to the funded pension system, each employer is obliged to make a regular transfer of mandatory pension contributions (MPC) in the amount of 10% of the monthly income of the employee.

To find out how many pension savings you have, you can get 2 certificates.

You can receive savings from the UAPF :

• upon reaching retirement age;
• upon conclusion of a pension annuity agreement;
• persons with disabilities of the first and second groups, if the disability is established indefinitely;
• when assigning a special social payment;
• when leaving for permanent residence in another country.

Pension payments from the UAPF are made monthly according to the schedule (by adding up the annual amount of pension payments and dividing them into 12 months) in accordance with the Methodology for calculating the amount of pension payments, and the calculated amount of monthly pension payments from the UAPF should not be less than 54% of the subsistence minimum. The subsistence minimum in 2026 is 50 851 tenge.

In order to make pension payments from the Pension Fund, basic pension and retirement payments on the principle of "one window", you need to go to the nearest branch of the NJSC GC Government for Citizens (CSC) and submit an application or use the service online.

You must have the following documents with you:

•  identity document (for identification of the person);
•  employment record (or certificates of archival institutions);
•  a document of education;
•  military ID card or certificate of the department (department) for defense affairs;
•  marriage certificate (if the surname is changed);
•  birth certificates of children (an extract from the birth certificate, or a certificate of registration of an act of civil status issued by the civil registration authorities);

- to confirm the care of a non-working mother for young children, one of the following documents is submitted (depending on their availability):

• children's identity document;
• marriage certificate (certificate of registration of acts of civil status) or a certificate of divorce or an extract from the certificate of marriage (if the surname is changed) of children;
• certificate of completion of secondary educational institution of children;
• a diploma of graduation from a secondary special or higher educational institution or a certificate of an educational institution confirming the education of children;
• children's death certificate (or death certificate or certificate of civil status registration issued by civil status registration authorities);
• a document confirming the passage of military service for children;

- certificate of rehabilitation issued by the Prosecutor's Office in accordance with Article 10 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On rehabilitation of victims of mass political repression";

- certificate of the military commissariat on participation in hostilities;

- a court decision confirming the fact of the implementation and the period of care for a disabled person of the first group, a single disabled person of the second group and an elderly pensioner in need of outside help, an elderly person who has reached the age of eighty, a disabled child under the age of eighteen;

- a document confirming the residence abroad of the spouse of an employee of institutions located in the territory of the Soviet Union, institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an international organization;

- a document confirming the residence of the spouse of a serviceman, an employee of a special state body in areas where there was no possibility of employment in the specialty;

- a document confirming the work activity in the country of departure of ethnic Kazakhs who arrived in the Republic of Kazakhstan for permanent residence in their historical homeland.
