Atyrau Region to Strengthen School Safety Measures During Summer Break Akim of Atyrau Region Serik Shapkenov chaired a staff meeting to discuss organizing a summer health campaign and ensuring children's safety during the summer break. The meeting was attended by deputy akims, heads of the police department, emergency management department, sanitary and epidemiological control department, and relevant akimat departments. Marat Almenov, Head of the Regional Department of Education, presented a report on the results of the academic year. According to him, approximately 154,000 students were enrolled in 235 schools in the region in the 2025-2026 academic year. This year, the final bell rang for more than 8,000 11th-grade graduates; another 13,906 students completed their ninth-grade education. 252 graduates are competing for the "Altyn Belgi" badge, and 445 students are vying for a diploma with honors. Following the discussion, the akim of the region ordered the safe completion of the school year and systematic preparation for the summer health campaign. Serik Shapkenov instructed that special attention be paid to student safety during graduation ceremonies. The relevant services have been instructed to strengthen security measures and conduct outreach to students and their parents. As the head of the region noted, experience shows that during these days, young people, believing school is over, find themselves out on the streets at night, remain unattended in entertainment venues, get into dangerous situations, and sometimes commit crimes. It is especially dangerous for minors to be out on the streets at night without parents or legal guardians, as this poses a direct threat to their lives and health. Akim of the region also addressed the issue of minors driving vehicles, mopeds, and scooters. He stated that in such cases, responsibility also lies with parents who entrust minors with vehicles they are not allowed to drive due to age. "Protecting children's rights and health is one of the key priorities of state policy outlined by the Head of State. During the summer, it is necessary to strengthen preventative efforts in conjunction with law enforcement agencies, organize joint raids and patrols, and conduct targeted outreach to parents," the akim of the region emphasized. Relevant agencies have also been instructed to pay special attention to children's safety during the swimming season. This includes implementing systematic preventative measures on beaches, coastlines, in swimming pools, and other public recreation areas. In conclusion, Serik Shapkenov emphasized that ensuring the safety of the younger generation is the shared responsibility of the state, parents, and society. Akim of the region demanded that all relevant agencies work in constant coordination throughout the summer.
