Tourism has become one of the principal drivers of Kazakhstan's economic development and is recognised as one of the country's fastest expanding sectors. In 2025 alone, the industry supported more than 600,000 jobs, contributed KZT 5 trillion to the national economy and attracted KZT 1.3 trillion in investment. International visitors spent USD 2.9 billion while travelling across Kazakhstan, generating tax revenues of more than KZT 630 billion.
The Tourism Industry Committee, operating under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, serves as the national authority responsible for shaping tourism policy, regulating the sector and coordinating its sustainable development across the country.
The Committee's activities are underpinned by the Tourism Industry Development Concept of the Republic of Kazakhstan through 2029, the country's long-term strategic framework for the tourism sector. To deliver its objectives, an updated Action Plan comprising 61 initiatives has been adopted across six strategic priorities, including infrastructure development, investment promotion, improvements to visa and migration procedures, the creation of competitive tourism experiences, international destination marketing and the development of a highly skilled tourism workforce.
The Committee is implementing a broad range of measures to modernize tourism infrastructure, improve the regulatory framework, accelerate digital transformation, attract investment, and enhance the quality of tourism services. Current priorities include expanding Kazakhstan's offer in coastal and lakeside tourism, nature-based tourism, business events, medical travel and year-round event tourism, while further enhancing the appeal of the country's national parks and resort destinations.
Digital innovation remains at the heart of the Committee's agenda. Ongoing initiatives include further enhancement of the eQonaq digital visitor registration system, continuous development of the national tourism portal Kazakhstan.travel with integrated artificial intelligence services, and the progressive automation of government support programmes available to tourism businesses.
The Committee also oversees two key institutions that play a vital role in the sector's development: Kazakh Tourism National Company JSC, which leads the country's destination marketing and investment promotion efforts, and the International University of Tourism and Hospitality, dedicated to educating the next generation of tourism professionals. Together, these organisations contribute to strengthening Kazakhstan's international competitiveness as a tourism destination.
