Surges of electrical voltage are one of the most common causes of failure of household appliances. Such situations can lead to serious material losses, especially if expensive appliances are damaged. It is important to know what standards regulate the quality of electricity in the Republic of Kazakhstan and where to apply for damages.
If the quality of electricity does not meet the requirements (for example, in the case of significant voltage deviations), the consumer has the right to claim for compensation for the actual damage incurred due to this violation.
In such cases, the issue of compensation shall be resolved in the court in accordance with the civil law of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the standard GOST 13109-97 effective in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the voltage deviations in electrical networks should not exceed:
±5% and ±10% of the nominal voltage, depending on the type of network (single-phase or three-phase).
In accordance with Articles 486 and 491 of the Civil Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan as well as the Law “On Electric Power Industry” electrical energy being supplied to the consumers must meet the established quality standards.
