Protect the hay from the fire!
Hay fires and hayloft fires are an annual problem faced by villagers. The Department of Emergency Situations of the Karatal district reminds that most often such fires occur as a result of childish pranks, violations of fire safety rules when storing hay or arson. Hay easily catches fire, and fire can quickly spread to residential buildings or other structures.
Here are some tips for the safety of hay storage:
- the haystack must be located at a distance of at least 20 meters from power lines and roads and at least 50 meters from buildings and structures;
- when piling hay in an open field, it is necessary to arrange mineralized strips – this is done in order to limit the spread of fire, you should not store all the hay in one place;
- do not smoke near hay storage areas;
- do not leave children unattended – a child's prank with fire is often the cause of hay fire.
Hay is allowed to be stored in outbuildings fenced off with fire barriers made of non-combustible material.
If a fire does occur, call the fire department by phone 101, before the arrival of firefighters, take measures to prevent the spread of fire - throw a burning haystack with earth and, if possible, move it away from buildings.
