Why is the chimney clogged with soot?
Soot formation is a natural process, but there are a number of factors that affect the degree of pollution and its speed:
the use of low–quality fuel. Raw, polluted firewood increases the amount of soot, soot from coniferous wood is more sticky, corrosive and less amenable to cleaning due to the presence of resins;
incineration of garbage (yes, some manage to burn plastic bottles and bags in the furnace);
violation of the chimney masonry technology, with impassable sections or just a narrow lumen of the pipe;
low-quality material from which the chimney is made, with low temperature resistance.
What to do so that the chimney is not polluted
In order to prevent pollution and as part of the care of the chimney, it is advisable to use preventive means – these are both chemical compositions (industry produces various means) and folk methods (rock salt, potato peelings, aspen or birch firewood).
Safety during cleaning
All methods require mandatory compliance with safety regulations!
For mechanical cleaning:
all work on the roof should be carried out only with insurance;
it is not necessary to clean the chimney in bad weather, when it rains, strong wind, icy roof – there is a great danger of falling off;
