Almaty region
Representatives of 105 ethnic groups live in Almaty region.
In 1995, the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan of the Almaty region was established and operates, the chairman of which is the akim of the region.
As of January 1, 2021, 28 regional ethno-cultural associations and their branches in districts-36 and cities-7, (total number - 71) unite representatives of various ethnic groups living compactly.

Germans – Ili, Karasai, Enbekshikazakh districts and the city of Taldykorgan;
Ukrainians – Enbekshikazakh, Ili, Talgar, Karasay districts;
Chechens – Enbekshikazakh, Talgar, Kerbulak, Karatal, Karasai districts;

There are 31 members of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan from the Almaty region.
The regional APK consists of 102 people, well-known not only in the region, but also in the republic, public figures, leaders of public opinion and ethnic groups.
Among them: 2 academicians-Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Rector of Zhetysu State University named after I. Zhansugurov K. M. Baymyrzaev, Professor of Abai KazPU, Doctor of Pedagogical and Acmeological Sciences G. H. Khairullin; 2 candidates of Sciences: V. L. Lee-chairman of the Taldykorgan branch of the "Association of Koreans of Kazakhstan"; A. A. Osman-chairman of the regional Azerbaijani ethno-cultural association.
S. Gaitova-member of the Council of elders "Ulagat", Sh. Asiev-chairman of the regional branch of the Turkish cultural center "Ahiska", L. Khochieva - honorary chairman of the regional Balkar ethno-cultural association" Balkaria", A. Osman are honorary citizens of the Almaty region.
As part of the regional maslikhat-deputies from the Assembly-U. Kasanov, K. Baimyrzaev, D. Digay, Z. Kuziev; deputies of district and city maslikhats are 8 members of the regional Assembly, these are: E. Kan, K. Nesterov (Tekeli); K. Vlasenko (Alakol district); N. Nadyrov (Enbekshikazakh district), R. Abilova, S. Chatuev (Ili district), Sh.Gusenov, A. Buzykin (Koksu district).

Councils of Public Consent under the Regional Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan. They were created to promote the development of charity, mediation, implementation of a system of public control, involvement of various social groups, non-governmental organizations, ethnic and cultural associations in the process of forming public harmony and national unity, monitoring the problems of the population, prevention of social tension, and taking practical measures to resolve differences and disputes.
The total number – 403, 1 - regional, 20-district and city, 382 - in rural districts and localities.

Mediation center.
In order to prevent and resolve disputes, a Mediation Center operates on the basis of the House of Friendship - the Center of Public Consent, and mediation offices are also open in 20 districts and cities of the region.

Club of leading journalists and experts on interethnic issues.
It was created with the purpose of information support of the activities of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan; to observe, develop and implement the principles of journalistic ethics, as well as to form responsibility in the journalistic community in matters of covering interethnic topics; to promote the production of positive information products (TV shows, shows, films, publications, commercials, etc.), promoting and consolidating in the public consciousness spiritual and moral values and national ideals.

Scientific and expert group.
It was created in order to mobilize the resource and intellectual capabilities of the research base, the potential of scientists of Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov to develop recommendations for strengthening the integrity of Kazakhstan's society and the formation of national harmony.
The scientific expert group at the regional APK consists of 21 people, including 4 doctors, 10 candidates of science and 7 masters.

In 2013, the Department of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan was established at Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov. The department consists of 5 people. Head of the department Huseynov Barkhudar Shakhgusenovich.
Council of mothers involved in the formation of tolerant behavior in the family and society.
The consultative and advisory body under the APK, established in 2013, for the promotion of ethnic traditions in matters of patriotic education of children, assistance to difficult teenagers, as well as disadvantaged and single-parent families; assistance in the implementation of social programs and actions, etc. The total number of councils – 266, of which: 1 – regional, 20 – district/ city, 245-rural, the number of members-1502.

Regional headquarters of the youth movement "Zhangyru Zholy".
Created on the basis of the youth association "Birlik". (The Association of Youth of the Almaty region "Birlik", which unites activists of the youth wing of ethno-cultural associations, was established in 2002 and is one of the founders of the Youth Congress of Kazakhstan).

Main areas of activity:
support of initiatives of young people of various ethnic groups aimed at the intellectual and spiritual development of young people; formation of self-awareness, active citizenship of young people; creation of conditions for the disclosure of creative abilities of young people;.
The database of public opinion leaders is regularly updated, and the passports of ethnic groups are updated annually.
In order to determine the interethnic situation, the public well-being of representatives of different ethnic groups, to prevent possible conflicts, as well as to prepare recommendations to local executive bodies, sociological surveys are conducted quarterly.
On October 15, 2020, the secretariat of the Regional Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan - the Department for Interethnic Relations, which consists of 4 employees, was established under the regional Department of Internal Policy.
One of the areas of work of the department is the organization of interaction with repatriates, NAO "Otandastar kory".
