One of the most common causes of fires is a short circuit in the electrical circuit. It can occur due to the fact that a faulty electrical appliance is connected to the network, or the insulation of the wire is broken, which leads to the connection of two conductors and a sharp increase in their temperature and subsequent fire. In addition, as a result of a short circuit, sparks often occur that can ignite nearby combustible materials. You can avoid such a situation if you comply with fire safety requirements when operating electrical equipment.
To avoid fires and tragic consequences, the following fire safety rules must be observed:
- operation of faulty electrical equipment is prohibited;
- do not use wires and cables with damaged or lost their protective properties insulation;
- do not use homemade electric heating devices of non-factory (artisanal) manufacture (electric furnaces, incandescent lamps) for heating, drying and cooking purposes;
- do not leave uninsulated electrical wires, cables and unused electrical networks under voltage;
- do not use damaged electrical products;
- do not tie and twist electrical wires and cables;
- do not leave unattended heating devices, electric stoves, televisions and other devices and equipment connected to the power grid, with the exception of devices whose regulatory documents allow their operation without supervision (refrigerators, fax machines, modems and other similar equipment);
- do not cover electric lamps (lamps) with paper, cloth and other combustible materials;
- it is forbidden to glue and paint electrical wires and cables;
- do not use radio and telephone wires as power grids.
