Household Gas is a Source of Increased Danger

Improper use of this type of fuel can lead to disaster. A household gas leak can cause poisoning or lead to an explosion. To ensure your safety and the safety of those around you and to prevent accidents, you must remember and follow the rules for using household gas appliances.

REMEMBER! Violating the rules for using gas appliances can lead to tragic consequences—carbon monoxide poisoning with fatal outcomes, thermal burns, loss of housing due to fires caused by gas-air mixtures, and suffocation.

For your personal safety, strictly follow these rules:

  • Do not allow young children, intoxicated individuals, or those who have not received instruction and do not understand the gas appliance’s structure and usage rules to use gas appliances.
  • Do not leave gas appliances unattended while they are in operation.
  • Do not block the ventilation grilles.
  • Do not use open flames to detect gas leaks in pipelines and appliances—this can lead to explosions and fires.
  • Do not use faulty gas appliances.
  • After using gas appliances, do not leave the cylinder valves or taps on the gas line and appliances open.
  • Do not attempt to repair gas appliances yourself.
  • It is forbidden to tamper with the seals on gas meters and appliances, or to reconnect gas appliances after they have been disconnected by the gas supply company.

If you detect the smell of gas in a room:

  • Turn off the stove burners and close the valve on the gas pipeline.
  • Do not press the electric doorbell, do not turn on the lights, and if the lights are on, do not turn them off (a spark caused by switching can lead to an explosion).
  • Ventilate the gas-filled room and call the gas service.
  • If the gas continues to leak, evacuate the people from the room, ask neighbors to help, or call the emergency service yourself.

First Aid for Household Gas Poisoning:

  • Immediately move the person affected by gas poisoning to fresh air.
  • If the person is breathing irregularly or not at all, perform artificial respiration.
  • Do not allow the person who has been poisoned by gas to eat.
  • Call an ambulance or take the person to a medical facility.

Be cautious with gas! Your forgetfulness and inattention can cause harm to you, your loved ones, and your neighbors. Only skillful handling of gas appliances and knowledge of gas safety rules will help you avoid accidents.
