Fire Safety in Forested and Steppe Areas

Fire Safety in Forested and Steppe Areas
With the onset of hot and dry weather, the risk of forest and steppe fires increases significantly. In most cases, fires are caused by human negligence: unattended campfires, discarded cigarette butts, the burning of dry grass or rubbish, and careless handling of fire.
Forest and steppe fires cause enormous damage to the environment. They destroy forests, vegetation, and animal habitats, pollute the atmosphere, and pose a serious threat to populated areas and agricultural land.
To prevent fires, it is essential to follow these simple rules:
- do not light fires in forests or steppe areas during the fire-risk period;
- do not throw away unextinguished cigarette butts or matches;
- do not burn dry grass or rubbish;
- do not leave glass bottles or broken glass behind;
- before leaving, make sure that the fire is completely extinguished.
If you notice a fire, immediately report it by calling 101 or 112. Remember that following fire safety rules is everyone’s contribution to protecting nature and people’s health and preventing emergencies.
