Scientific literacy refers to the capacity to use scientific knowledge to identify problems, to draw evidence-based conclusions and to make appropriate decisions. The level of scientific literacy is assessed through PISA task modules.

Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region, jointly with Bekzhan M. Muratbekov, a teacher of physics of Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of Ust-Kamenogorsk, conducted a webinar on the topic: “Developing tasks of different levels for building scientific literacy in accordance with PISA requirements” for teachers of physics of schools of the region.

The goal of the webinar:

- to analyze examples of standard physics tasks that meet international standards;

- to develop skills for effective teaching of physics through discussion of tasks at complexity levels 3-6;

- to enhance teachers’ knowledge in fostering scientific literacy in accordance with the requirements of PISA and to provide training in developing subject-specific tasks of different levels.

Expected outcomes:

- Deep understanding of the content of scientific literacy and PISA requirements.

- proficiently to develop and analyze level tasks (3-6 levels).

- to design physics problems in PISA format and determine appropriate assessment criteria.

- Implementation of effective teaching and assessment strategies meeting international standards.

- Integration of tasks aimed at developing students’ scientific literacy into classroom practice.
