Educational activities related to the development of cognitive interests and needs of children in those areas that cannot always be realized within the framework of school education is growing in modern-day conditions.

Additional education is a special educational system.

For the first time in the Republic, basic and additional education of children is considered as equal, complementary components creating a single educational space required for the full-fledged personal and individual development of each child.

For these purposes, a network of out-of-school educational institutions exists in the region. The program of additional education for children is implemented both in educational institutions and out-of-school institutions. Today, the network of additional education institutions of the region comprises of 114 units, of which 87 ones are in the education system, 27 ones are in the culture and sports system.

Additional education focuses on the following main areas

- artistic and aesthetic

- technical

- ecological

- tourist and regional study

- social and humanitarian

- science and mathematics

In 2020, additional education covered 80,551 people, accounting for 42%. There are 5,327 sections and hobby groups in general education schools.

In light of the implementation of the Address of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to expand the activities of additional education institutions in Ust-Kamenogorsk city, we’ve launched:

- in 2019, Jastar Time Innovation Center, where students learn 2D/3D graphics, programming, making videos;

- in 2020, Zerek Creative Education Center. The opening of this Center made it possible to work in new directions, such as: IT - quantum, roboquantum, promroboquantum, industrial designquantum, energyquantum, aeroquantum, cosmoquantum, VR/AR quantum (augmented and virtual reality), autoquantum, bioquantum, geoquantum, mediaquantum, quantogame, Design Studio and Business School.

 According to the Resolution of Akimat of Semey city No. 1774 dated October 29, 2020 - a new center was opened: Center for Scientific and Practical Education and Tourism of Education Department of Semey city. To achieve its goals, the Center performs the following activities: implementing additional education programs in the following areas:

- sports and technical;

- small school of engineering and technology, mathematics and science;

- pre-profile and vocational training of schoolchildren;

- child and youth tourism;

- social and pedagogical.

Out-of-school institutions of additional education involve 2,028 teachers, including 988 (48.7%) with higher pedagogical education, 313 (15.4%) with secondary pedagogical education, 420 (20.7%) with higher specialized education, with secondary specialized education - 307 (15.1%). During the quarantine period since March, all teachers of additional education of East Kazakhstan region have successfully switched to the new format of distance learning. One of the important indicators of additional education is about children involvement in mass sports. The total coverage of children involved in sports sections of secondary schools at the beginning of 2020 amounted to 67,691 children - 36.5%. For these purposes, 2,922 sports sections function in educational institutions. 44 sports classes with 930 students are currently functioning as part of the implementation of the Daryndy Mektep Comprehensive Plan.

Patriotic education of the younger generation is of particular importance. For these purposes, 153 specialized classes of “Zhas Sarbaz” were opened in the region, covering 3,155 students, involving them in sections of various directions.

In the region there are also 517 military-patriotic sports clubs and military-patriotic associations covering 13,826 cadets.

In East Kazakhstan region, there are 2 associations of child and adolescent clubs and 3 neighborhood clubs (58 NCs in all) covering 11,364 students, children and adolescents.

In East Kazakhstan region, there are 2 associations of child and adolescent clubs and 3 neighborhood clubs (58 NCs in all) covering 11,364 students, children and adolescents. 

5 child and adolescent clubs were updated in Ust-Kamenogorsk: rooms for robotics and 3D visualization were equipped, an acoustic system, a mixing control panel and radio system were installed, sports equipment was purchased, etc.

Education Administration holds significant image events at both regional and republican levels. All activities of additional education are aimed at forming the spiritual culture of learners’ personality, as well as their stable living position.

Not only learners of secondary schools, but also students of universities and colleges of the region actively participate in the events.

Regional gathering of tourist expeditionary teams “Menin Otanym – Kazakhstan” and the regional forum of young ethnographers, ecologists and naturalists “Tabigatty ayala” are annually held as part of Rukhani Zhangyru Program in order to foster a sense of patriotism and civic consciousness among the younger generation promoting a healthy lifestyle by activating the tourist activities of expeditionary teams, as well as developing youth tourism and local history.

Following the 2019-2020 academic year, 4,323 students took part in 47 regional events of additional education and physical culture, of which 1,820 children won prizes. 266 students participated in 29 republican events, winning 79 prizes.

Organizing and ensuring rest, health improvement and employment of children and adolescents during holidays is among the priority tasks of local executive agencies and Education Administration.

In 2020, due to the current epidemiological situation, the rest and employment of children during holidays is organized in Online-Holidays format. For this purpose, Education Administration has created an account shko_online_kanikuly for all children of our region who wish to use various Internet platforms and social networks: ZOOM, Telegram, hatsApp, Skype, Instagram, etc. 

During the winter holidays from December 31, 2020 till January 9, 2021, the account shko_online_kanikuly organized remote thematic shifts in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Kazakhstan balalary - kysky gazhaiyp! - Children of Kazakhstan - winter magic!”.  The online winter holidays program is aimed at developing and improving the system of organizing useful and active activities among learners.

Teachers from additional education institutions of the region were involved in organizing the rest for children in a distance format.

The distance shift program included: daily interactive hobby classes and master classes with professional teachers of additional education; online meetings with representatives of Emergency Department and Internal Affairs Department on traffic rules and safety measures; sports activities, online meetings with famous athletes; online quests, master classes, creative contests, entertaining quizzes, exhibitions of children's handicrafts and children's creative works; virtual excursions to picturesque places  of the world, virtual tours to museums, exhibitions and other sights of the region and the Republic; reading books, watching movies in a virtual club, online visiting theaters and concerts, communicating with leaders in video chats.  

Distance thematic shifts were organized during the summer holidays in accordance with the Concept “Kazakhstan balalary – zhazdy kuanyshka toltyraiyk! involving 161165 children (90%).

It’s worth noting that this format was used during the spring, summer and autumn holidays and got positive feedbacks from children and parents, as well as the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

All activities included in the holidays program are aimed at creative and intellectual realization of children, strengthening family values, organizing charitable events for children and families in difficult life situations.

Thus, the outcome of well-coordinated work and a systematic approach is to improve the quality of organizing fruitful leisure and involving more children in additional education.
