In recent years, Maktaaral farmers have increasingly gained recognition for growing high-quality cabbage. Their produce is now known across the country and is even being exported abroad.
Throughout the district, early-maturing cabbage has been planted on 430 hectares using drip irrigation technology, and the first harvests have already begun. To date, nearly 1,500 tons of cabbage have been exported to neighboring Russia.
One of the first farms to harvest cabbage this season is “Erezhep Ata,” located in the Zhambyl village of the Zhambyl rural district. This year, the farm planted 9 hectares of the Beijing variety Monaco F-1 and 3 hectares of Farao F-1 using drip irrigation.
The Monaco cabbage has already matured and initially entered the market at a price of 250 KZT per kilogram. Currently, it is being sold for 170–190 KZT per kilogram. This variety yields around 300 centners per hectare. The “Agrogruz” production cooperative, located in the N. Yesentaev village of the Maktaaral rural district, has opened a cabbage collection center and is now shipping products directly to Russia.
By the end of the week, sugar beet from our district is also expected to hit the market. The “Sabyr” farming enterprise, also located in the N. Yesentaev village, has cultivated 35 hectares of land: 7 hectares with sugar beet, 10 hectares with cabbage, and 13 hectares with melon. The sugar beet is expected to ripen in a few days, and the head of the farm plans to sell the crop at 300 KZT per kilogram.
It is worth noting that cotton planting has also begun in the Maktaaral district. This year, it is planned to plant cotton on over 35,000 hectares, and 4,000 hectares have already been sown. Of this, 800 hectares will be cultivated using drip irrigation technology. In addition, drip irrigation is being introduced for cabbage, melon, and rice crops.
One of the farms implementing drip irrigation for cotton is “Sogdiana,” located in the Unymker village of the Zhanibek Nurlybayev rural district. The farm has signed a contract with the domestic company “BNK Group” and is introducing new water-saving technologies on 11.4 hectares. The cost per hectare is approximately 900,000 KZT, 80% of which is subsidized by the government.

Today, many promising initiatives are being implemented in our district to develop agriculture. Especially for regions engaged in irrigated farming, the efficient use of water resources remains one of the top priorities. Therefore, the introduction of water-saving technologies in agricultural lands is highly relevant today.
In this regard, the application of modern technologies such as drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, and smart irrigation systems presents a significant opportunity. Moreover, our government currently subsidizes 80% of the costs associated with implementing water-saving technologies. With this goal in mind, District Akim Bakhyt Asanov met with Mr. Fun Zu, head of the Chinese company "Bazhou Xincai Group," to discuss projects related to the introduction of these technologies.
Currently, in cooperation with the Chinese company, work has begun in the Enbekshi rural district to implement water-saving irrigation on 100 hectares of land owned by LLP "ZhuldyzKomTorg" for cotton cultivation, and on 34.86 hectares owned by the "Erezhepova" farming enterprise for rice cultivation.
"Considering the natural conditions and economic direction of Maktaaral district, the introduction of water-saving technologies is a requirement of the times. By using water efficiently, we can elevate our agriculture to a new level and improve the region’s socio-economic condition. These technologies not only save water but also help enhance the quality of produce. For example, drip irrigation allows water and fertilizers to be delivered directly to plant roots, creating optimal growing conditions and increasing yields. Additionally, it reduces soil erosion and helps limit the spread of weeds," said Bakhyt Nasyrkhanuly.
It is worth noting that currently, 89 farming enterprises in Maktaaral district, managing a total of 4,895 hectares of agricultural land, have expressed interest in adopting new technologies. Of this, 1,300 hectares have already submitted applications to receive state subsidies. Furthermore, since the beginning of the year, water-saving technologies have been introduced on 2,186 hectares of melon and cabbage crops, and work has now begun to implement these technologies on 129.4 hectares of cotton and 35 hectares of rice.
All civil protection services, enterprises, industrial facilities, institutions, educational and health organizations of the region took part in it. Special attention is paid to facilities with the presence of people with limited mobility and large crowds of people. There are 615 organizations and 65,043 citizens in total.
According to legend, an earthquake was felt on the territory of the region.
People left the premises, went out into the open area or managed to take safe places in buildings. At educational facilities, educators and teachers took children outside, doctors occupied together with patients stood in doorways and corners of capital walls, actions with emergency shutdown of equipment were worked out at industrial facilities, special attention was paid to evacuation and rules of conduct in places where people with limited mobility and large crowds stay.
"The earthquake happens suddenly. Unfortunately, science cannot yet accurately predict it in advance. Therefore, it is important to constantly hone the procedure for the first tremors. Training briefings were conducted with citizens and employees of enterprises, it was explained how to find relatively safe places in the building where you should wait out the tremors. Following the results of the seismic training, the specialists of the Emergency Situations Department gave recommendations to the heads of facilities on the need to conduct similar training on an ongoing basis," said Deputy Head of the Emergency Situations Department of East Kazakhstan Region, Kuatbek Kenzhebekuly.
