National Guard

The National Guard is part of the unified system of internal affairs agencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan and is designed to ensure the security of the individual, society and the state and to protect human and civil rights and freedoms from criminal and other unlawful attacks.

Functions:

• protection of important state facilities and special cargo;
• participation with internal affairs agencies in the protection of public order, ensuring public safety and legal regimes of emergency and martial law, anti-terrorist operation, participation in it, as well as in measures to eliminate the consequences of natural, man-made and social emergencies;
• protection of institutions of the penal correction system of medium security, maximum security, emergency security, mixed security;
• control and supervision of the behavior of persons held in institutions of the penitentiary system of medium security, maximum security, emergency security, mixed security;
• escort of convicted persons and detainees;
• performance of certain tasks in the system of territorial defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan in wartime;
• participation in special operations to clear armed criminals;
• participation in the suppression of serious and particularly serious crimes, sabotage, acts of terrorism, armed clashes and the separation of opposing parties;
• performance of tasks in accordance with international treaties ratified by the Republic of Kazakhstan.
