More than 5 thousand convicts were granted amnesty in Kazakhstan
In total, more than 12 thousand convicts are subject to amnesty.
Currently, more than 34 thousand people are being held in institutions of the country's penal system. In total, since the signing of the Law "On Amnesty in connection with the thirtieth anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan", 945 persons in places of deprivation of liberty have been released from punishment, another 1,102 convicts have had their unserved sentence reduced.
Convicted persons are subject to release immediately, immediately after the announcement of the judge's decision. Previously, previous amnesties provided for waiting for the entry into force of the decree, and they could be released from penitentiary institutions only after 15 days.
This humane act also applies to persons brought to criminal responsibility that does not provide for isolation from society.
Thus, the number of probation service students released from punishment today is 1,741 citizens. Decisions to reduce the unserved sentence were taken by the courts in respect of over 1.7 thousand registered persons.
Recall that the amnesty concerns only certain aspects of criminal law relations, in essence it does not rehabilitate citizens, but only facilitates the situation of persons who have committed a criminally punishable act.
A humane act consists in full or partial release from punishment, replacement with a milder one, or termination of criminal prosecution.
By the way, it applies to persons who have committed crimes that do not pose a serious threat to the security of citizens and the state, special attention is paid to socially vulnerable categories – minors, elderly women and men, disabled people (groups 1 and 2).
Since last year, more than 11 thousand materials have been sent to the court by the divisions of the Criminal justice system: 2,310 - from institutions, 9,321 - from the probation service.
