Sunstroke

Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight on the head on hot days leads to dilation of the cerebral blood vessels, resulting in a rush of blood to the head (hyperemia.)

The first signs of sunstroke will be redness of the face and severe headaches. Then there is nausea, dizziness, darkening of the eyes, and finally vomiting. The patient falls into unconsciousness, shortness of breath appears, and the activity of the heart drops.

Preventive measures are covering the head with a handkerchief, as well as pouring cold water on the head.

First medical aid

The victim should immediately be moved to a cool place in the shade or a well-ventilated room, remove clothing and lay down, slightly raising his head. The victim is given rest, the head and heart area are cooled (pouring cold water, applying compresses). However, you can not cool quickly and sharply. It is useful to wrap the patient with a wet sheet - the evaporation of water from it will slightly reduce the body temperature. Give plenty of water and light food.
