Ombudsman and the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania discussed сurrent reforms in Kazakhstan

The working meeting between Elvira Azimova and a Lithuanian delegation, represented by Lithuanian Deputy Foreign Minister Adomėnas Mantas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Kazakhstan Vasiulis Gintautas and representatives of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry was held in Astana.

The deputy foreign minister expressed a great interest in establishing cooperation between the two countries in the field of human rights. The Ombudsman told about the activities of the national human rights institution (NHRI), the national preventive mechanism for the prevention of ill-treatment with the participation of non-governmental organizations, including those participating in the Coalition against torture, the reforms carried out in the country and the implementation of legislative initiatives, as well as issues raised by the human rights and academic community in the field of human rights and human rights capacity-building.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on promising areas of expert support and exchange of practices to facilitate the restoration of violated human rights.
