According to the Ombudsman, the first law «On the Commissioner for Human Rights» was adopted on December 26 last year.
«Now the document has reached a high Constitutional level. The Commissioner for Human Rights is independent of State bodies and other officials. The law prescribes the functions of the Commissioner. Now he is engaged not only in considering people's appeals, but also in filing applications to the court if these applications are related to the basic norms of the law, ineffective application of the law in practice, violations. According to the Constitution, the Commissioner for Human Rights has the right to protect the rights of people by applying to the Constitutional Court. This experience has shown a positive result at the international level. Currently, most states have the opportunity to raise the status of the Commissioner for Human Rights and protect human rights not only in state bodies, but also in court», Elvira Azimova said speaking at the CCS venue.
