Geneva, May 6, 2026
- The Republic of Kazakhstan has officially concluded its one-year chairmanship of the Trade Policy Review Body (TPRB) of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The final event under Kazakhstan’s diplomatic leadership was the successful Trade Policy Review of Belize. Kazakhstan assumed this position in June 2025, becoming the first CIS country to head this key WTO body, which served as recognition of Astana’s highest authority and leadership on the world stage.
A Trade Policy Review (TPR) is a regular audit of member countries’ trade systems, ensuring transparency in global trade and eliminating hidden barriers. The successful conduct of these reviews strengthens the stability of the global market, minimizes the risks of trade conflicts, and helps countries quickly adapt their economies to international standards. For Kazakhstan itself, the chairmanship enhances its investment appeal and demonstrates its commitment to open-market principles.
During its one-year chairmanship, 12 global reviews of the trade policies of the organization’s member states were successfully conducted, including those of major world economies such as the United Kingdom, Australia, and Norway.
Following this large-scale effort, the international community expressed its deep appreciation to Kazakhstan’s diplomatic corps for its impartiality, professionalism, and significant contribution to strengthening global transparency.
