Now there is an increased demand for vegetables in the country, as a result of which prices for it have increased markedly.
The issues of onion price containment were considered at the meeting of the interdepartmental commission on foreign trade policy and participation in international economic organizations, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan - Minister of Trade and Integration Serik Zhumangarin, inbusiness.kz with reference to the press service of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The discussion was attended by representatives of state bodies, NCE "Atameken", akimats of a number of regions, the Association of onion growers of Kazakhstan. The meeting was organized in order to implement the instructions of Prime Minister A. Smailov on the need to curb prices for basic types of food products.
According to representatives of retail chains, onion prices show the greatest growth during the off-season. The participants of the meeting considered the factors of increased demand for onions in foreign markets, the possibilities of vegetable storages to preserve this type of vegetable, as well as forecasts for early harvest in neighboring countries.
Following the discussions, the Ministry of Agriculture and akimats were instructed to analyze the actual available onion stocks necessary to fully meet the demand of the population and curb prices. If the results of the analysis show the risk of onion insufficiency during the off-season, measures will be taken in advance to protect the domestic market.
