On 6 October 1992 were established diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Hellenic Republic.
In February 1997 was opened the Embassy of Greece in Kazakhstan.
On 13 January 2005 was opened the Diplomatic Mission of Kazakhstan in Greece.
On 22 May 2009 the Diplomatic Mission was transformed into the Embassy.
Since May 2021 the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Hellenic Republic is Yerlan Baudarbek-Kozhatayev.
Since November 2021 the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Kazakhstan is E. Kakiopoulou.
Visits at the highest and high level
President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev paid a state visit to Greece in July 2001 and participated in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in August 2004.
President of Greece K.Stephanopoulos paid an official visit to Kazakhstan in June 2002.
27-28 June 2009 the Kazakh Foreign Minister M.Tazhin visited Greece.
1-2 December 2009 State Secretary – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan K.Saudabayev took part in the 17th meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council under the chairmanship of Greece in Athens.
1-2 December 2010 Prime Minister of Greece G.Papandreou took part in the Summit of Heads of OSCE Member States in Astana.
5-6 December 2022 Greek Foreign Minister N.Dendias visited Kazakhstan.
Interparliamentary cooperation
October 9-12, 2009 Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Vice-President of the OSCE PA K.Tokayev took part in the work of the OSCE PA meeting in Athens.
On March 16-22, 2016 M.Voridis, member of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, member of the Parliament of Greece from the party «New Democracy», visited Kazakhstan as an observer from the OSCE PA for the extraordinary parliamentary elections.
On June 1, 2016 M.Voridis, member of the Parliament of Greece, visited Astana to participate in the international conference «Religions against Terrorism.
On September 23-25, 2019 I.Sarakiotis, member of the Parliament of Greece, visited the Republic of Kazakhstan to participate in the 4th Meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of Eurasia.
October 19-20, 2017. Co-chairman of the interparliamentary friendship group «Kazakhstan-Greece» A.Tasbulatov and a member of the friendship group A.Konurov visited Greece on a working visit.
Trade and economic cooperation
Bilateral trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Greece in 2023 reached $2.254 bln. (export – $2.218 bln., import – $36 mln.), 36% increase from the previous 2022 year ($1.631 bln., export – $1.608 bln., import – $23 mln.).
An important mechanism of bilateral cooperation is the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Technological Cooperation. To date, 5 IGC meetings have been held (the last one in Astana on October 19, 2022). Co–Chairs: from the Kazakh side – Vice-Minister of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ye. Yerkinbayev, from Greek side – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic K. Fragoyannis.
On June 20, 2022, the Kazakh-Greek Business Council opened in Greece. The Kazakh side is co–chaired by well-known economist Zhaksybek Kulekeyev, and the Greek side is co-chaired by entrepreneur Thomas Lamnidis.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
On May 24, 2017 the film «The Road to Mother» was screened in Acharnes in honor of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Greece.
On May 18-19, 2018 the Presidential Orchestra of Kazakhstan’s State Security Service took part in the first Athens Military Music Festival called Amphionia.
On October 12, 2018 Kazakh director Y. Tursunov’s film «Shal», based on the story of Ernest Hemingway «The Old Man and the Sea», was screened in Athens.
On April 5, 2019 within the framework of the conference Kazakhstan-Greece, a presentation of the thematic Catalog of books in Greek stored in the National Library of Kazakhstan was held in Athens.
On August 25, 2019 a literary evening «Abai – Poet of the Great Steppe» was held in Athens.
On November 11, 2019 the opening of the exhibition «The Great Steppe: History and Culture» (The Procession of the Golden Man through the museums of the world) took place in Athens.
November 30, 2020 the Kazakh Embassy in Greece prepared and released a video dedicated to the celebration of the 175th anniversary of Abai Kunanbayuly.
On December 14, 2021 with the participation of Greek Foreign Minister N. Dendias, a solemn ceremony of raising the National Flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held in the new building of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Athens.
On October 27, 2022 the opening of the monument in honor of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Greece took place in Acharnes.
On November 5, 2023 took place a ceremony of signing the act on establishment of twinning relations between Kazakhstan’s Taraz and Greek Ancient Olympia.
