Kazakhstan views participation in UN peacekeeping as an important aspect of its foreign policy efforts to strengthen international and regional security.
Kazakhstan supported the UN Secretary-General's Action for Peacekeeping (A4P) initiative, Action for Peacekeeping+ (A4P+), and the Declaration of Shared Commitments on Peacekeeping Operations (A4P Declaration).
Interaction with the UN in the context of traditional peacekeeping began in 2014 with the deployment of the first officer of the Kazakh Armed Forces as a military observer to the UN mission in Western Sahara.
In accordance with the Resolutions of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, nearly 800 Kazakh servicemen have contributed to UN peacekeeping missions since 2014.
Another 156 peacekeepers are currently serving in seven UN missions, including the national contingent of Kazakhstan (139 personnel) in the Golan Heights, as well as staff officers and military observers in Western Sahara, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lebanon, Jerusalem, and South Sudan.
Presence in world’s hotspots under UN auspices contributes to the increased combat readiness of the Kazakh armed forces.
