The first political contact between the two countries began with the visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Morocco headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco Abdel Latif Moulin in the period from 26 to 28 May 1992.
August 21-22, 2006 the Special Envoy of the King of Morocco, the Minister of Agriculture and Marine Fisheries, Muhammad Laenser, visited Astana. He was received by the Secretary of State of the Republic of Kazakhstan O.Abdykarimov, who was presented with a message from the Moroccan monarch addressed to the President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev with a proposal to intensify bilateral cooperation. He also held meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev and the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan A.Yessimov.
Three rounds of political consultations have been held since the signing of the Memorandum of understanding between the MFA of Kazakhstan and the MFA of Morocco in 2011.
The first round was held on October 6-8, 2011 in Rabat. The Kazakh side was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs K.Sarybay, while the Moroccan side was headed by Secretary of State of the MFA L.Akharbash.
The second round was held on December 11-12, 2013 in Astana. The Kazakh side was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs K.Sarybay, Moroccan – by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs N.Bourita. During the visit, N.Bourita was received by the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev and met with the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of oil and gas K.Safinov. Following the meeting with the Rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (APA) B.Abdrasilov, a Memorandum of Understanding and cooperation was signed between the APA and the Academy of Diplomatic Studies of Morocco.
The third round was held on February 15-16, 2016 in Rabat. The Kazakh delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan A.Musinov, Moroccan - by Minister-Delegate of the MFA of Morocco N.Bourita. A.Musinov also held a meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Fisheries M.Sadiki. Within the framework of this visit, the official opening of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Casablanca took place.
May 29, 2017, the Special Envoy of the President - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan A.Kamaldinov paid a working visit to Morocco. During the visit, the Special Envoy met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco N.Bourita and handed over a letter from the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to the King of Morocco Mohammed VI with an invitation to participate in the first OIC Summit on Science and Technology in Astana on September 10-11, 2017.
September 9-11, 2017 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco N.Bourita took part in the 1st OIC Summit on Science and Technology as a Special Envoy of the King of Morocco. During the visit, he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan K.Abdrakhmanov.
On September 27, 2018, in New York Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan K.Abdrakhmanov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco N.Bourita signed an intergovernmental agreement on the exemption from visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
On January 17, 2022, the first Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Morocco with residence in Rabat, Saulekul Sailaukyzy, presented her letters of credentials to the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI.
Interparliamentary ties between the two countries have been actively developed.
April 22-23, 2014 at the invitation of the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Tokaev a parliamentary delegation of Morocco headed by Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah, Chairman of the House of Councillors of Morocco (Upper House) visited Astana. During the visit, the Head of the Moroccan delegation held bilateral meetings with the Chairmen of the Senate of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev and Majilis K.Zhakypov, Prime Minister K.Masimov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of EXPO-2017 A.Kuatova, as well as E.Sydykov, Rector of the Eurasian National University named after L.Gumilyov.
November 10-12, 2014 Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev made an official visit to Rabat as the head of the parliamentary delegation of our country. During the visit, K.Tokayev met with Chairman of the House of Councillors of Morocco Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah, Chairman of the House of Representatives (lower house) Rachid Talbi Alami, Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane, as well as Special Envoy of the King of Morocco, Head of the Royal Chancellery Omar Azziman, who was presented with a message from President N.Nazarbayev to King Muhammed VI with an invitation to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan, matching it with participation in the V Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
On December 6-7, 2018, Rabat hosted the International Conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was attended by the Deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan N.Toragaliev.
Deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan T.Mukashev and G.Duisembayev took part in the autumn session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, which took place on October 4-6, 2019 in Marrakech.
Parliamentary friendship groups have been established and operate in the Parliaments of both countries.
Cooperation within the framework of international organizations
Kazakhstan and Morocco actively cooperate within the framework of international organizations.
The State Secretary of the MFA of Morocco, Latifa Akharbash participated in the OSCE Summit on December 1-2, 2010 in Astana.
She also took part in the 38th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, held on June 28-30, 2011 in Astana.
Within the framework of the 40th session of the OIC Council of Ministers, held on December 9-11, 2013 in Conakry (Republic of Guinea), the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Ye. Idrissov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Morocco S.Mezouar.
On September 27, 2018, a bilateral meeting was held in New York between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan K.Abdrakhmanov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco N.Bourita.
Morocco supported Kazakhstan's initiatives – the "Code of Conduct towards Achieving a World Free of Terrorism" and the "Universal Declaration on the Achievement of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free World".
On February 25, 2021, Morocco signed the Charter of the Islamic Organization for Food Security. Currently, the responsible institutions of the country are working on its ratification.
In October 2021, Morocco supported Kazakhstan's candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council.
