In accordance with the Agreement on cooperation in the field of culture, education and science between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of Spain dated October 27, 1998, direct contacts and exchanges between universities, scientific and cultural centers have been intensified.
In March 2015, the Spanish Language Center was opened at the Eurasian National University.
Agreements on cooperation and exchange of students between the Autonomous University, Complutense University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University have been signed. Doctoral students at the Kazakhstan University underwent a foreign scientific internship in Spain from September to December 2019.
Cooperation with the University of Cadiz is successfully developing, in which 140 representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan have been trained.
Cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere has noticeably intensified in recent years. As part of the promotion of the state program of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Rukhani Zhangyru", in November 2018, the opening of the Center for Kazakh Literature and Art in the library of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID) took place in Madrid. In December 2018 and January 2019, the State Opera and Ballet Theater "Astana Opera" toured Valencia with the ballet "Swan Lake".
In March and October 2016, cycles of Kazakh cinema were held in Spain, timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Independence of Kazakhstan. Since 2016, Kazakh films, with the support of the Kazakhfilm studio, have been regularly presented at the annual Asian Film Festival in Barcelona.
In December 2018, at the National Auditorium of Music in Madrid, with great success, for the first time in Spain, a concert of the Kazakh State Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments named after Kurmangazy took place.
In April 2019, in one of the largest cultural centers in Spain "Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid" (Fine Arts Center of Madrid), the premiere of the documentary trilogy "Equus: The Story of a Horse", filmed by Canadian and Kazakh filmmakers, took place.
In September 2019, in Madrid, at the Cervantes Institute, a solemn presentation of the Anthology of Modern Kazakh Prose and Poetry in Spanish was organized. Within the framework of this project, poetry and prose of more than sixty Kazakh authors were translated into Spanish for the first time, which makes it possible for readers of all Spanish-speaking countries to get acquainted with the Kazakh culture.
During 2020, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Spain organized a series of events dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev and the 1150th anniversary of Abu Nasyr al-Farabi.
In 2021, on the occasion of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Embassy held a series of image events. So, together with the Spanish national postal company "Correos", commemorative postage stamps with the logo of the 30th anniversary of Independence were issued, a presentation of the book of Elbasy "The Era of Independence" translated into Spanish took place. In the emblematic building of the capital of Spain "Madrid Casino" (an elite club for the political and business establishment of Spain) a conference was held - "Kazakhstan, looking to the future", with the participation of the Ambassadors of a number of foreign states, representatives of the diplomatic corps, expert and business community.
On December 16, 2021, the central square of Madrid "Cibeles" and its fountain, located in front of the City Hall of the capital, were lit in the colors of the flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
September 15, 2022 in the historical center of Madrid, in the cinema "Center of Fine Arts", with the assistance of the "State Center for the Support of National Cinema" and the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Spain, the inauguration of the "Days of Kazakhstani Cinema" took place, during which the European premiere of the films "Alga" directed by E. Nurgaliev and "Scheme", directed by F. Sharipov, who was present at the presentation, together with the producer of the film "Alga" M. Akbarov.
