Today, aerospace industry of Kazakhstan is represented by the group of domestic satellites in the space and by the space communication system on the Earth as well as by organizations that construct satellites and implement promising projects in Baikonur.
Currently, 3 satellite constellations are under routine operation.
KazSat (KazSat-2 and KazSat-3) space communication system fully satisfies country`s needs in satellite communication and TV. The system utilization is 74%. Measures are taken to export space communication system services to Central Asia countries.
It is planned to produce “KazSat-2R” satellite to perform the scheduled replacement of “KazSat-2” satellite in 2024.
The Earth Observing System (EOS) with two satellites (KazEOSat-1 and KazEOSat-2) enabled providing the country`s need in EOS data. Thanks to this, 100% of Kazakhstani land resources were digitized and it also allows handling issues in the fields of agriculture, private sector, land utilization and ecology.
In the long run, it is planned that Kazakhstani satellites will enter international constellations on the EOS market (THEIA, MAXAR constellations, etc.) that use a wide spectrum of optical and radar equipment. This will enable enhancing digitization accuracy, mineral deposits monitoring and atmosphere and soil analysis.
In December, previous year, two space system satellites of scientific and technological significance (KazStSat and KazSciSat) were launched. The satellites were designed by Kazakhstani engineers to refine domestic technologies which will enable increasing the engineers’ competence to enter international market.
Construction of assembly and testing complex for space vehicles is in the completion stage. The completion percentage is 98% and its commissioning is planned in the 3rd quarter. First orders have already been received for the complex to the amount of KZT 1 billion. Implementation of KazSat–2R and EOS satellite constellations projects will be performed with respect to the launch of assembly and testing complex for space vehicles.
To expand Kazakhstani participation in Baikonur cosmodrome, it is planned to implement the project in cooperation with Russia on establishing “Baiterek” space rocket complex based on the “Souz-5” launch vehicle. Also, to perform commercial launches, investment project on “Gagarin's Start” modernization based on “Souz-2” launch vehicle in cooperation with Russia and UAE is discussed.
