The Constitutional Court has accepted for consideration an application seeking a review of Part 3 of Article 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which allows a court to extend the period of detention in cases involving serious crimes for up to twelve months.

The applicant argues that the wording of the provision is insufficiently precise and that there are contradictions between different parts of the article.

The Constitutional Court noted that the arguments in the application are based on assumptions of possible textual ambiguity, whereas the provision itself establishes a clear procedural framework for extending preventive measures. It is applied within the system of provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code, ensuring a balance between the interests of defence and procedural necessity.

Information on the progress and results of the review will be published on the official website and Telegram channel of the Constitutional Court.
