Community service is a punishment in which a person has the opportunity to redeem himself before society and the state with his work, without losing his job, familiar environment, and family. In contrast to correctional labor, a person sentenced to community service is serving a sentence, that is, working in their spare time. As well as other types of punishment not related to imprisonment (except for a fine and a lifetime ban on certain activities), the probation service monitors the execution of the sentence. Public works are organized by local Executive bodies in public places located at the place of residence of the convicted person. Community service is established for criminal offenses for a period of twenty to two hundred hours, for crimes of small and medium gravity-for a period of two hundred to one thousand two hundred hours. Community service is served no more than four hours a day, with the convicted person being released from performing labor duties at the place of main work or during their free time from school. Involvement in community service is not assigned to pregnant women, women who have young children under the age of three, men who raise young children under the age of three alone, women aged fifty-eight and over, men aged sixty-three and over, disabled people of the first or second group. The criminal Executive legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan establishes a number of obligations for those sentenced to community service, such as:
1). observe the procedure and conditions for serving a sentence;
2). perform works organized by local Executive bodies in public places;
3). notify the probation service of a change of residence;
4). report to the probation service for registration and participation in a preventive conversation once a month.
For 10 months of the current year, according to the records of the probation Service of the Uzunkol district, 8 people were sentenced to community service.
