The Department of Fisheries, Hunting and Protected Areas in its activities is guided by the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, laws, acts of the President and Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, other regulatory legal acts, regulations on management, as well as Regulations.

The Department, in accordance with the task assigned to it, performs the following functions within its competence in accordance with the procedure established by law:

participates in the implementation of state policy in the field of protection, conservation and use of wildlife;

Provides the state service "Issuance of a permit for the use of wildlife" (fishing, hunting);

organizes and conducts a competition for securing hunting grounds and fisheries reservoirs and (or) sites with the participation of the authorized body and regional representative bodies.

Based on scientific recommendations, the fisheries sector carries out certification of reservoirs and sites.

Performs other functions in accordance with the current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
