A striking monument of the religious architecture of Kostanay at the end of the XIX century is the building of the Muslim mosque, which was built in 1893 with donations from the population.
The main donor to the new mosque was one of the most famous merchants and benefactors of the city of Kostanay in the late XIX-early XX century, a representative of the Trinity trading house "Brothers Yaushev" Abdulvaley Ahmadkhanovich Yaushev. The semicircular projection of the two-story mosque ended with a high balcony, from which Muslims were called to prayer. The building of the 6-meter mosque was divided into two tiers. In the lower tier, which was covered with felt, poor Muslims prayed; in the upper one, with walls and floor covered with luxurious carpets, the local nobility.
The main volume in the composition of the mosque is the prayer hall, which is a rectangular two-light hall, i.e. the lighting was provided by two rows of Windows located one above the other in accordance with their floor placement on the facade. Currently, there is a floor overlap. The original appearance of the interior has not been preserved.
The Muslim mosque, built in 1893 on the donations of rich Muslims from the Tatar settlement, is a rare historical monument of the region. The total capacity of the mosque is over 1000 people.
In the future, the building of the Mosque was reconstructed. In 1993, Kostanay Cathedral mosque celebrated its centenary. In 2002, the mosque was named after the outstanding scientist Maral Ishan Kurmanuly. The Maral Ishan mosque (AK mosque) is listed as a historical monument protected by the state.
