On December 31, 1986, the puppet theater opened in the city of Kostanay with the performance of A. Sadovsky "Mashenka". This performance became a starting point in the history of our theater. Today, the theater's repertoire includes more than 40 performances, many of which have adequately represented our region and country at puppet theater festivals of various levels, and have repeatedly become laureates and diploma holders.
In 1999, the Kostanay Regional Puppet Theater was merged with the Kostanay Regional Russian Drama Theater named after M. Gorky. This unique union of two absolutely different creative collectives in Kazakhstan has received the status of the Kostanay Regional Drama and Puppet Theater.
On February 27, 2012, Resolution No. 112 of the Akimat of Kostanay region "On the reorganization of the State Municipal state Enterprise "Kostanay Regional Russian Drama and Puppet Theater" was adopted and the municipal state state enterprise "Regional Puppet Theater" was created. In the same year, on May 28, by Resolution No. 255 of the Akimat of Kostanay region "On the transfer of regional communal property", it was decided to transfer a three-storey building along 20 Perronnaya Street from the balance of the Kostanay Regional Palace of Culture to the balance of the Regional Puppet Theater to the balance of the Regional Puppet Theater. The puppet theater has its own building with an auditorium for 126 seats, with art, design, costume workshops, a rehearsal hall and two dressing rooms. The puppet troupe opened its 27th theatrical season in its own building with the status of a regional puppet theater.
The creative component of the performances remains unchanged, they are staged according to the works of Russian, Kazakh and the best foreign dramaturgy. Children's performances "Once again about Little Red Riding Hood" (S. Efremov), "At the Behest of a Pike" (A. Garakhovskaya), "Teremok" (S. Marshak), "Three Little Pigs" (S. Mikhalkov), "The White Daughter of the Steppes" (G. Kulunchakova), "The Adventures of the Bear Rim-tim-ti" (Ya. Vilkovsky), "Hawk" (I. and Ya. Zlatopolsky), "Sing a song, my dombra!" (A. Karasai) and others have long been loved by the guys and continue to please them.
The actors of the theater work with different types of dolls – cane, tablet, glove, growth, which makes the performances diverse, unusual in a new way and invariably interesting for small and large audiences. Every season the repertoire of the theater is updated with new productions.
Over the years, the theater has won a number of prestigious awards and diplomas from Kazakhstan and Russia:
