Regional universal scientific library No. 2 in Arkalyk

The Regional Universal Scientific Library No. 2 in Arkalyk is one of the largest libraries of the region and the city, a cultural, educational, information and methodological center of the region.

The history of the library is inextricably linked with the history of the city of Arkalyk. A powerful impetus to the development of Arkalyk was given by the formation of the Turgay region on November 23, 1970 and giving Arkalyk the status of a regional center.

On January 27, 1971, by the decision of the Turgay Regional Department of Culture, the regional library and a day later, on January 28, 1971, the regional children's library were opened in the city of Arkalyk. On October 19, 1979, the Turgay Regional Youth Library was opened.

Turgay region underwent reorganization three times (June 2, 1988, October 25, 1990, April 22, 1997), and with it the library.

The currently functioning regional universal scientific Library No. 2 in the city of Arkalyk was founded on July 14, 1997 on the basis of the former regional libraries of the Turgay region. In 2001, the library was allocated a new room at 62 Abai Avenue, where all the former four regional libraries were united under one roof, and where it is located to this day.

The book fund of our library is universal, and today it amounts to 281,999 thousand copies – a huge wealth, not lost even in the years of social upheavals. For development, a purposeful policy of library acquisition is being carried out, taking into account modern requirements, as well as readers' requests for Kazakhstani publications, and first of all, in the state language.

A significant place in the library's activities is occupied by cultural events aimed at supporting state programs and national ideas: the formation of civic consciousness, Kazakh patriotism, morality and a healthy lifestyle, improving the general culture of readers, preserving cultural heritage, interethnic tolerance.

Being a universal library, our events are held with all groups of readers. A significant part of the events are still held with young people, and in the state language.

The regional library has been visited over the years by poets and writers, prominent figures, natives of the Torgai region: Koishygara Salgarin, Tolen Abdikov, Sabit Dosanov, Abzhan Abiltai, Nagashybai Mukatov, etc. The library hosted events with the participation of Tursyn Zhurtbay, Aitbay Muzdakhanov and Anar Muzdakhanova, Kalibek Deripsaldin, Amangelda Kenshilikuly, Aibek Kaliev, artists of the Abai State Theater Bakhtiyar Kozha, Meruert Otekesheva, Gaziza Abdinabieva, etc.

The priority area of the library's activity was and remains local history. It is well known that the Torgai land has given birth to many bright, unique personalities, known not only in the region, but throughout Kazakhstan, and also keeps a rich history.

In the conditions of digitalization of the library fund, in order to create a full-text database for the Torgai region, the library is working on the project "Tekti Torgai". The library's activities are reflected in projects and clubs: "Adebi alem" (promotion of the artistic literature of the authors of the Torgai region), "Adilet Zholy" (education of legal culture), "Olke topzhargandary" (artists), "Ayaly Alakan" (work with children with disabilities), "BiblioPlus" (the work of mobile and pick-up points), "Zhas talent", "Rukhaniyat", "Zhas Kalam", "Sheber Koldar", the Internet club "We are over 50+".

OUN # 2 is a methodological center for the libraries of the region: Amangeldinskaya, Zhangeldinskaya and Arkalyk Central Library. 3 regional seminars and training sessions for librarians of the region are held annually in the state language. In recent years, regional seminars have been held on the following topics: "Kogamdagi kitap pen oku madenietin kalyptastyrudagi balalar kitapkhanasynyn roli", "Zamanaui kitapkhananyn zhana kelbeti", "Kitapkhanalardagi zhoba zhumystaryn damuy". In order to provide methodological and practical assistance, we regularly make visits to the libraries of the region, issue and distribute methodological and bibliographic manuals.

Every year 16 thousand readers cross the threshold of our library, more than 8 thousand readers take part in mass events of the library, the book output is more than 510 thousand copies. publications.
