Kostanay regional library for children and youth named after I. Altynsarin

Today the Kostanay Regional Library for Children and Youth named after I. Altynsarin is the main library serving children and youth. It is not only a reading center, but also a platform for creativity and self-realization of the younger generation.

In August 1992, from two independent libraries: the regional Children's library named after A. Gaidar (year of education – 1958) and the regional youth library named after I. Altynsarin (year of education – 1978), by merging, the Regional Library for Children and Youth named after I.Altynsarin was created.

The library is located in the city center, in a building that is an architectural monument of the late XIX – early XX century (the House of merchant Voronov), at the address: Kostanay, Kasymkhanov str., 74.

In 2010, the library building underwent major transformations as a result of major repairs, which did not at all affect the historical appearance of the library as an architectural monument. Changes for the better affected not only the facade of the library, but also its internal structure, the area of which has increased significantly. Today it is a whole library complex, which includes two buildings. The library, using all available resources, creates an environment for the development of a child through reading, a book. Engaged in the promotion of high-quality literature, educating the younger generation of moral and patriotic qualities. Provides optimal conditions for cultural development, formation and satisfaction of educational, communicative needs of children.

The library cooperates fruitfully with libraries of Kazakhstan and Russia. Close ties have been established with the children's music school No. 1; the department for work with disabled children, the Kostanay Center for the Provision of Social Services; nursery garden No. 15 of the Department of Education of Kostanay, schools and other educational institutions and organizations of the city.

The fund of the Kostanay Regional Library for Children and Youth named after I. Altynsarin has more than 157 thousand copies. Every year the library subscribes 145 titles of periodicals, regularly receives new books.

The main creative product of the library is the magazine of children's creativity "HEDGEHOG", which has been published since 2000.

The visiting card of the library is the Regional competition of readers "Living Word", the main idea of which was the popularization of the creativity of modern Kazakhstani authors writing for children and adolescents.

Since 2021, the Republican contest named after Ibray Altynsarin for the best literary work for children and adolescents has been held. The republican contest was initiated in order to find and promote authors whose works reflect the current realities of modern life and positive solutions to psychological, moral, and social problems.

The priority direction of the library is the work aimed at forming the patriotic spirit of the younger generation, fostering love for the native land, cultural and historical heritage. The library implements a cycle of events for state and national holidays "We are your children Kazakhstan, children of the same land", a cycle of events on local history "Kostanay chronicles", "Literary world of Kazakhstan", "Altynsarin meetings".

Library website: allib.kz, regularly updated with local history content. In 2016 , it was created Portal "Ibrai Altynsarin", since 2019, work has been underway to implement the network local history project "Kostanay region".

The library's work is presented in social networks: information about upcoming and held events, new book receipts, etc.

The promotion of books and reading is the main direction in the library's activities. The library regularly hosts online meetings with Kazakhstani authors: A. Amraeva, Z. Esenaman, T. Shipulina, M. Zhylkybai, E. Klepikova, Z. Teleuova, L. Kalaus, K. Zemskova.

Children's Book Week and International Children's Book Day are held annually. There is a platform for organizing children's leisure outside of school hours "Biblioprodlenka", "English Club", a circle "Young journalist", creative circles "Origami Lessons +", a creative workshop with elements of artistic reading for disabled children "Bibliotherapy", as well as drawing lessons "Palette".

In the library, all circles, clubs, associations are aimed at joint creativity with children.

The library actively cooperates with the media, events and projects of the library are covered in the press.

Every year the library serves more than 9 thousand readers, the book output is more than 201600 copies of literature.
