Onomastics is a branch of linguistics that studies proper names, the history of their origin and transformation, and as one of the main sections of linguistics consists of 3 departments.
1. Naming administrative territorial units, returning historical names and renaming them.
2. Assigning names of famous personalities to constituent parts (streets, avenues, alleys, parks, boulevards, etc.) and renaming them.
3. Assigning names to objects of state property, renaming and assigning names of famous personalities to them, as well as clarifying and changing the transcription of their names.

Currently, the above-mentioned work is carried out in the country by the Republican Onomastic Commission and the Onomastic Commission under the akimats of the region, as well as working groups created under the akimats of cities and districts, which are a consulting and advisory body for the development of proposals on the formation of a unified approach to the restoration and preservation of historical names.

Members of the regional onomastic commission take part in the explanatory work carried out through meetings with residents, round tables, publications in the media and social networks, etc. For example, with the participation of public figure D. Koshim and a member of the regional onomastic commission K.H. Zhakyp, on June 12-15 this year, field seminars and meetings were held in Auliekolsky, Karabalyksky, Fedorovsky, Denisovsky, Zhitikarinsky, Uzunkolsky districts, the city of Kostanay.
1).According to the positive conclusion of the Republican Onomastic Commission for Naming S.Altynsarina, A.Baytursynuly, A.Birimzhanova, S.Kobeeva, the Department of Education is developing a draft resolution of the regional akimat for 4 secondary schools of the region.
2).The village of Zhanakala was renamed into the Abdigappar Khan of Arkalyk city, the Embankment rural district and the village of Elizavetinka were renamed into the Baishuak of the Beimbet Maylin district, the Tubdispanser Street into M.Karabaev Street of the village of Borovskoye of Mendykarinsky district.
3).According to the conclusion of the commission dated 06/20/2023, a joint resolution and decision of the regional akimat and maslikhat on the return of the historical name of the 1st village of Auliekolsky district (Lavrentyevka village to the village of Zhosaly Novonezhinsky rural district) are being developed.
Currently, due to the reorganization in the higher coordinating body, the work of the ROK and regional commissions on the consideration of issues of renaming and naming settlements, their constituent parts and objects has been temporarily suspended.
