A ceremonial event was held ahead of Republic Day, bringing together city representatives, members of the business community and the public.
In recognition of their high professionalism, dedicated work and contribution to the development of the city and the region, outstanding employees from various sectors were presented with certificates of appreciation from the regional and city akims.
Behind every achievement is the daily work of people who ensure the smooth functioning of the city, develop its infrastructure, create new opportunities and contribute to improving residents’ quality of life. All award recipients were thanked for their dedication to their work and responsible approach to their duties.
The results of the “People’s Choice” (Narodnoye Kachestvo) competition, initiated by the Nash Kostanay newspaper with the support of the city akimat, were also announced. The winners were selected by residents themselves, who voted for the enterprises and manufacturers they trust.
This public recognition is particularly valuable, as it reflects the views of local residents and confirms that the success of local businesses is built on the quality of products and services, responsibility and respect for consumers.

The road built in 2023 between the Airport and Bereke microdistricts provides a direct connection between the two areas and helps reduce traffic congestion on the city’s main roads.
The issue of waiting at the railway crossing has been explained on several occasions. However, as residents continue to raise concerns, specialists were instructed last week to conduct an additional study of traffic flows involving the National Center for Quality of Road Assets and the city’s Police Department. Monitoring was carried out over the course of one week at different times of the day.
The results of the study were presented at today’s staff meeting. According to the findings, more than 10,000 vehicles use this road daily. During the monitoring period, the railway crossing was closed 21 times. The duration of the red signal prohibiting traffic ranged from 2 to 14 minutes.
This road helps ease traffic congestion on Nazarbayev Avenue, which carries approximately 35,000 vehicles per day.
The current traffic arrangement is a temporary solution. The construction of an overpass across the railway line is being considered as a way to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow. This issue is being examined as part of the amendments to the city’s master plan.
Today, the progress of repair works at the underground pedestrian crossing in the Vtoroy Podyom district was inspected. The works include renewing the wall cladding, laying paving stones, and installing lighting and video surveillance systems. Measures are also being taken to ensure barrier-free access for people with reduced mobility.
Kostanay has three underground pedestrian crossings. Last year, a major renovation was completed at the crossing near School No. 9 on Kaiyrbekov Street. The renovation of the crossing near the GAI bus stop is planned for next year.
Construction of a fourth underground pedestrian crossing between the Tobyl Arena car park and the Kostanay Plaza shopping and entertainment centre is scheduled for completion by November 1. The project is being implemented using investor funds.
The city also has three above-ground pedestrian crossings, located on Nazarbayev Avenue, Gashek Street, and near the railway station.
Kostanay continues to modernise its pedestrian infrastructure in stages. The main objective is to ensure safe, accessible, and convenient movement for all residents.
The city akim inspected the completion of construction works on 10 residential buildings in the Qonai district, as well as the landscaping of the surrounding areas. He also took part in tree planting activities. Approximately 500 trees and shrubs are planned to be planted in the area.
A total of 30 five-storey apartment buildings comprising 1,425 apartments have been constructed in the district, with a combined floor area of 112,000 square metres.
The comprehensive development of Qonai has been underway since 2018. Water supply, sewage, electricity, gas and telephone networks have been installed in stages. In 2024, vertical site levelling works were completed, while in 2025, access roads to the district were opened and street lighting was installed.
Alongside residential construction, the surrounding areas have also been landscaped. Children's playgrounds, sports facilities, recreation areas and parking spaces have been provided. A park featuring a modern children's play complex and professional outdoor fitness equipment has also been built.
Landscaping and further development of the district will continue. The main objective is to create a comfortable, safe and modern urban environment for residents.
On October 17 at 9:00 AM, an agricultural fair featuring agricultural producers from the cities and districts of the region will be held at Sayakhat Market.

We invite all residents and guests of the city to visit the fair, enjoy fresh, high-quality products at affordable prices, and support local agricultural producers.

Infrastructure development and improvement works are being carried out in stages in Bereke microdistrict to create a comfortable and safe environment for residents. As the area continues to grow, particular attention is being paid to road quality, street lighting, and the development of public spaces.
The main road infrastructure works have been completed. Asphalt has been laid and road markings have been applied. In response to residents’ requests, an additional street has been constructed near the comfortable school. The remaining work includes laying paving slabs over an area of approximately 1,000 square metres, installing road signs, and cleaning the surrounding area.
Street lighting installation is also underway. A total of 425 lighting poles are being installed throughout the microdistrict. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of November this year. This will improve street lighting and help ensure residents can move around safely after dark.
Further improvements to the microdistrict’s streets are planned for 2027. These include the installation of bus shelters, benches, waste bins, and small architectural features.
The comprehensive development of Bereke microdistrict will continue. Efforts to improve road quality, enhance street lighting, and upgrade public spaces are aimed at improving residents’ quality of life and creating a more comfortable urban environment.

Autumn greening efforts continue in Kostanay. Trees are being planted and new green spaces are being created along Al-Farabi Street and in other parts of the city.
Over the past four years, more than 21,000 trees and 92,000 shrubs have been planted in Kostanay. This year, the city plans to plant another 3,629 trees.
In autumn, an additional 810 saplings will be planted along Al-Farabi Street, near City Center, on Syanov, Abai and Gogol streets, as well as in the park along the Tobol River embankment. The saplings include spruce, linden, elm and poplar trees.
The survival rate of the planted trees exceeds 95%. The focus is not only on increasing the number of green spaces but also on ensuring that the trees take root successfully and continue to grow.
These efforts are part of the city's ongoing improvement and landscaping initiatives and the implementation of the “Taza Kazakhstan” campaign. Expanding green spaces, planting more trees and improving urban areas are important steps towards creating a comfortable and welcoming environment for residents.
