African plague is a particularly dangerous highly contagious disease of pigs, which causes huge economic damage resulting from the costs of eliminating (destroying) all pigs in a disadvantaged area and carrying out veterinary and sanitary and quarantine measures.
Domestic pigs of all breeds and ages are ill, regardless of the season of the year. Animals of other species, as well as humans, are immune to the virus. There are no vaccines for prevention and no specific serum against this disease.
Last year, this particularly dangerous infection was registered in the border areas of the Russian Federation.
The disease is transmitted directly through direct contact
from sick animals, through feed infected with the virus, litter, uninfected pig meat and meat products, waste from food enterprises, vehicles when moving animals,
as well as through service personnel. Blood-sucking insects can be carriers of the virus.
With the initial occurrence of the disease, the morbidity and mortality rate approaches 100 %.
With a super-acute and acute course, the body temperature rises to 41-42 °C in animals. On various areas of the skin, especially
purple-red spots, hemorrhages and hematomas appear in the abdominal area, on the inner surfaces of the thighs.
Most animals have signs of pneumonia, pulmonary edema and gastroenteritis. There may be cases of sudden death without pronounced clinical signs of the disease.
Taking into account that the African swine
fever is not registered in our republic, it is necessary for individuals and economic entities engaged in pig breeding to carry out strict measures to prevent the introduction of the disease into the territory of the country.
In order to prevent the introduction of the African swine fever virus
, it is not allowed:
1) import domestic and wild animals, their slaughter products and feed of all types from countries that are not affected by African swine fever;
2) owners of vehicles traveling to the Republic of Kazakhstan should deliver animals
and meat products (except canned food) to the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan to feed people purchased
in countries that are not affected by African swine fever.
In order to prevent the owners of animals, it is necessary to carry out:
- daily inspection of animals independently or with the help of veterinarians;
- do not purchase feed and feed additives of unknown origin in unidentified places;
- do not feed food waste and waste obtained after slaughtering pigs to animals, dispose of waste in designated places;
- to fight rodents;
- do not allow unauthorized persons to visit personal farmsteads.
Also, individuals and legal entities are required to notify the veterinary service:
- about the newly acquired animal, the received offspring, its (their) slaughter and sale;
- about cases of death, simultaneous illness of several animals
or about their unusual behavior;
- to prevent the slaughter of animals for sale without pre-slaughter veterinary inspection and post-slaughter veterinary and sanitary examination of carcasses and organs.
