The increased cost and weight thresholds for duty-free importation of goods for personal use will be valid until October 1, 2022. This was reported in the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission adopted Decision No. 59 of April 15, 2022 “On Amendments to the Decision of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission of December 20, 2017 No. 107 “On Certain Issues Related to Goods for Personal Use”.
The decision comes into force after 10 calendar days from the date of its official publication, i.e. from April 28, 2022 (published on the official website of the Eurasian Economic Commission on April 18, 2022).
The decision provides for an increase in the cost and weight thresholds for duty-free importation of goods for personal use imported by individuals in accompanied and (or) unaccompanied baggage into the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union by modes of transport other than air, from 500 euros to 1000 euros and from 25 kg to 31 kg until October 1, 2022.
Such a temporary increase in thresholds for duty-free importation of goods for personal use is introduced for the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation. In the Republic of Armenia, these thresholds remain at the same level.
During the specified period, goods for personal use imported in accompanied and (or) unaccompanied baggage into the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union by means of transport other than air, within the limits of 1000 euros and 31 kg are not subject to customs payments.
This threshold has been temporarily increased until October 1, 2022. Thus, in the period from April 28 to October 1, 2022, if the value of goods imported in baggage for personal use exceeds the amount of 1000 euros and (or) their weight is more than 31 kg, the recipient must pay customs duty in the amount of 30% of cost, but not less than 4 euros per 1 kg of weight in terms of exceeding the cost and (or) weight norms.
