The German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) operates in
In Kazakhstan since the early 1990, the first GIZ office was opened in 1996, today
the organization is represented by two offices in the cities of Nur-Sultan and Almaty.
Kazakhstan is still a fairly young state, which gained its independence in
1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union. In the first years of independence, the country's economy
was in decline. Due to the income received from the extraction of raw materials, mainly from
oil and gas production, the country experienced an economic recovery from the beginning of the millennium until
the global financial and economic crisis in 2007. Taking into account the vast territory
of the country and the huge distances between cities, one of the tasks is the development
of disadvantaged regions. The state is working to reduce the dependence of the economy on raw
materials and promote the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. The unemployment rate combined with
the growing shortage of qualified specialists pose further challenges
economy. The country is facing environmental problems such as limited water
resources, air pollution and inadequate waste management. The harmonization of laws is also
an important task.
GIZ in Kazakhstan works on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economic
Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ), as well as other German and international
partners. The Government of Kazakhstan receives support in the following areas:
Long-term economic development and effective public administration
Education and vocational training
Environment and climate
In order to ensure the long-term development of the country's economy, the efficiency of the work of customs and other border control bodies is increasing. This is done through cooperation between the Government and various regions of the country, as well as with other States in the region. In this way, trade facilitation should be achieved. in addition, the competitiveness of enterprises should be increased and the quality of products and services should be improved. Together with authorized state institutions, giz is working on the development of modern administrative law and improving the quality of its application.
