Starting September 1, 2026, a requirement for the mandatory digital labeling of beer and beer-based beverages packaged in glass containers will come into effect in Kazakhstan. All products manufactured domestically or imported from abroad on or after this date must bear a Data Matrix code.
Phased rollout of labeling for beer and beer-based beverages:
- from February 1, 2026 – products in kegs;
- from September 1, 2026 – products in glass bottles;
- from January 1, 2027 – products in metal cans.
The introduction of digital labeling will ensure end-to-end product traceability throughout the supply chain—from manufacturer or importer to retail consumer—and guarantee the electronic processing and confirmation of documents during product transfers between market participants.
What must market participants do?
1. Register in the Digital Labeling and Traceability System (IS MPT) via the tanba.markirovka.kz portal.
2. Complete and register product data sheets.
3. Complete the procedures for obtaining and applying labeling codes well in advance.
4. Ensure that equipment and accounting systems are ready to transmit and confirm electronic documents during the circulation of labeled goods.
Important note regarding existing stock: The sale of unlabeled stocks of beer and beer-based beverages produced or imported prior to the mandatory labeling date is permitted for a period of one calendar year, in accordance with the approved list.
Market participants are advised not to delay preparations until September 1. Initiating processes in a timely manner will help avoid disruptions in product sales and ensure a smooth transition to the new regulatory requirements.
