To date, Kazakhstan has created and operates a full-fledged space communication and broadcasting system (SCS) of the KazSat series, consisting of two satellites (KazSat-2 and KazSat–3) and two ground–based complexes for their management (the main one is the «Akkol» Space Communications Center and the backup one is the «Kokterek» Space Communications Center).
Communication and broadcasting satellites were created by leading Russian enterprises (KazSat-2 – FSUE «State Space Research and Production Center named after M.V. Khrunichev»; KazSat-3 – OJSC «Information Satellite Systems named after Academician M.F. Reshetnev») together with the European company Thales Alenia Space.
The KazSat-2 and KazSat-3 satellites are designed to provide telecommunications services: broadcasting, telephony, Internet access, data transmission, etc.
The service area of KazSat-2 and KazSat-3 spacecraft includes the entire territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the countries of Central Asia, the central part of Russia, and the countries of Central Asia.
The operation and deployment of services on the basis of SCS «KazSat» is provided by the joint-stock company «Republican Center for Space Communications» (JSC «RCSC»), established on March 18, 2004.
By the Order of the Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated June 20, 2023 No. 195/NK «On the definition of national operators of space systems» JSC «RCSC» is defined as the national operator of the SCS.
