The city of Shakhtinsk is multi-confessional. 10 of the 18 confessions operating in the Republic of Kazakhstan are represented in the territory of the city of Shakhtinsk and the settlements of Dolinka, Novodolinsky and Shakhan.

20 religious associations are registered, of which 2 are of Islamic orientation, 3 are of Orthodox, 1 is of Catholic, 10 are of Protestant, 3 are of Jehovah's Witnesses and 1 is of New Apostolic Church.

The religious situation is characterized as stable. State-confessional and inter-confessional relations are developing in a constructive manner.

In order to provide an objective assessment of the current situation, the religious sphere is monitored on an ongoing basis. The activities of religious associations, the state of state-confessional and inter-confessional relations, current trends and factors that may affect the situation, as well as the results of preventive and information and educational work, are analyzed.

Statistical data, the results of sociological research, expert assessments, and information space materials are used for the analysis. This allows for the timely identification of relevant issues and the determination of areas for further work.

Special attention is paid to compliance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of religious activity. In particular, monitoring of missionary activities in the city and its suburbs is carried out to prevent cases of such activities being carried out without proper registration or other violations of the law.

Preventive measures are aimed at increasing the religious and legal literacy of the population, explaining the principles of a secular state and the legislation in the field of religious activity, preventing religious extremism and terrorism, and preventing the involvement of citizens in destructive religious movements.

In Shakhtinsk, there is an information and educational group on religious issues. Meetings are held with various target groups of the population, taking into account the current topics and characteristics of the audience. Specialists of the relevant profile are involved in the information and educational work.

An additional mechanism for implementing information and educational and preventive work is the state social order. In 2026, the project "Organization and implementation of information and educational activities aimed at strengthening interfaith harmony, spiritual and moral values of Kazakhstani society, as well as countering manifestations of religious extremism and terrorism in the city of Shakhtinsk, the villages of Dolinka, Novodolinsky, and Shakhan" is being implemented. Based on the results of the competitive procedures, the public association "Citizens of Kazakhstan" has been selected as the project's executor.

The interaction between government agencies and religious associations is carried out in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Meetings are held with the heads of religious associations, during which issues of compliance with the law, development of constructive state-religious cooperation, strengthening interreligious harmony, and maintaining social stability are discussed.
