The Committee of Atomic and Energy Supervision and Control of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (CAESC) organized and conducted «Transport Security Inspection» training course under support of US Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration, Office of Radiological Security, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Almaty on May 12 -14, 2021.
The training course has been conducted at the Nuclear Security Training Center of the Institute of Nuclear Physics.
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy, Border Service, Ministry for Emergency Situations, National Security Committee, CAESC and organizations of the atomic sector of Kazakhstan took part in the training course.
The training course consisted of theoretical and practical exercises. Theoretical classes were conducted by American experts remotely using ZOOM platform. The main focus of the course was made on enhancing the capacity to develop and conduct a robust inspection program for radioactive material shipments. For the practical part of the course participants conducted the inspection of a vehicle for transportation of radiation sources.
