On October 10, 2018, the fifteenth auction for the northern and southern zones of Kazakhstan was held to select hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 55 MW.
During the auction, 5 bids from 5 companies were submitted, with a single project capacity from 13.88 to 26 MW. The total volume of applications amounted to 101.08 MW. The starting price at the auction amounted to 16.7 tg / kWh. According to the results of the 3-hour session, the price range proposed in the applications of participants ranged from 14.85 tg / kWh to 16.71 tg / kWh.
The auction was declared valid according to the “Rules for the organization and conduct of auction bidding, including qualification requirements for auction participants, the content and procedure for submitting an application, types of financial security for an application for participation in the auction and conditions for their submission and return, procedure for summing up the results and determining the winners”, at least 2 participants and more than 130% of purchased capacity.
The Representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the non-governmental sector and international organizations participated in the auction as observers. The observers note the full transparency of the electronic trading system of the auction organizer – “KOREM” JSC.

according to the Schedule of the auction bidding for 2018, approved by the order of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 466 dated December 21, 2018, from May 23 to June 7 and from October 3 to 18 of this year. Kazakhstan hosts the first international auction bidding for the selection of renewable energy projects.
Auction, being one of the stages of the planned development of renewable energy sources, is aimed at selecting the most efficient projects and forming market competitive prices for electric energy produced by renewable energy facilities.
According to the Schedule of the auction bidding for 2018, in the current year it is planned to hold auction bidding in the amount of 1,000 MW of installed capacity, broken down by type of power plant:
- solar power plants - 290 MW;
- wind power stations - 620 MW;
- hydroelectric power stations - 75 MW;
- Bio ES - 15 MW.
