Swimming Season in Zhetisu: Fewer Tragedies — Stronger Prevention

With the arrival of the summer season, efforts to prevent accidents on the water have traditionally intensified across Zhetisu Region. Since the start of the swimming season, employees of the Zhetisu Regional Department for Emergency Situations, in cooperation with local authorities, police, and volunteers, have strengthened preventive measures, patrols, and public outreach near bodies of water.
According to operational data, since the beginning of 2025, one person has drowned in the region’s waters — a case not related to the swimming season. For comparison, during the same period in 2024, six drowning cases were recorded, five of which occurred during peak vacation time. Notably, the only fatality in 2025 was a child, but no child deaths have been recorded during the swimming season itself.
In 2024, five people drowned during the swimming season, including three children. These figures emphasize the importance of consistent prevention efforts and vigilant supervision by adults.
Since the start of 2025, 27 individuals have been rescued by emergency services in Zhetisu, compared to 36 in 2024 — including 8 children. In the current year, no rescues involving children have been reported, indicating increased parental awareness and improved public understanding of safety guidelines.
In terms of administrative enforcement, two individuals have been held liable under Article 412 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan for violating water safety rules in 2025, with fines totaling 13,762 tenge. For comparison, during the same period in 2024, 42 individuals were fined, totaling over 542,000 tenge, including 39 cases during the swimming season.
The Department for Emergency Situations of Zhetisu Region urges all residents to strictly follow safety rules around water: avoid swimming in unauthorized areas, use flotation devices, and never leave children unsupervised. Only shared responsibility and vigilance can help prevent tragedies and ensure a safe summer for everyone.
