A significant role of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan is to create a regional development policy. This includes developing proposals for the growth of agglomerations, second-tier cities, small and single-industry towns, and rural and border areas. The Ministry also analyzes regional development, identifies internal potentials, monitors and evaluates local executive bodies' performance, and shapes policies for local self-government and inter-regional cooperation within the country.
