Professional support for prison psychologists will be provided by Yertay Isatayev, a specialist in the field of analytical psychology. The psychologist-analyst will provide services within the framework of a memorandum concluded jointly with the territorial DUIS.This was announced by the head of the Department of the Penitentiary System in the Zhambyl region, Ryspaev Niyaz, during a round-table conversation. The Colonel of Justice raised one of the acute problems of our time - suicide, its prerequisites, ways of prevention and prevention in places of deprivation of liberty.
"We have 3,200 convicts in the penal enforcement system, of which more than 80% are prisoners who have committed serious and especially serious crimes. Today I would like to talk openly on this topic, share and listen to opinions and suggestions about the prevention of suicide cases. To conclude a memorandum of cooperation with you, to take measures to reduce the number of suicide attempts, and to preserve the lives of citizens who once stumbled," Ryspaev said.
The discussions were attended by employees of the local executive body and the Prosecutor's Office of the region, representatives of the Public Monitoring Commission, the National Preventive Mechanism, as well as members of the Zhambyl Regional Theater, which closely cooperates with the Department of Criminal Justice and its subordinate institutions.
Interested services of the UIS units also volunteered to take part in this event. Today there are 5 institutions in Zhambyl region, psychologists monitor the mental state of persons serving sentences. As of November of this year, their total number is 13 people, 8 of whom are freelancers from the civil sector.
During the discussions, psychologists presented to representatives of structures of different spheres of the region, as well as to Isatayev Yertai, the work of one of the prisoners currently serving his sentence in the emergency security institution ZhD-158/7. Last year, a man was convicted of murder, upon arrival in the colony, he violated the established order of detention in every possible way, tried to injure himself and commit suicide. Soon the convict asked the administration to provide him with pencils and blank sheets of paper. As it turned out later, the man has a photographic memory and specializes in painting portraits. Most often, on parchment, the convict depicts women with babies in their arms, and the composition of the picture is always the same - a woman clutching a child to her chest.
This detail was also noticed by the psychologist-analyst Yertay Isatayev, he also noted the adult and conscious look not peculiar to a child in infants of paintings. According to Isatayev, the prototype of the child is the convict himself, once deprived of maternal love and care.
"Suicide prevention includes a whole range of measures - from the formation of a negative attitude to suicide to the timely detection of mental illnesses and support for mentally healthy people who find themselves in prison," he added.
