Employees of institution No. 29 visited the yurt museum in honor of the 180th anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev. As part of the celebration of the 180th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet, philosopher and educator Abai Kunanbayev, employees of institution No. 29 visited the yurt museum located in the city of Abai. This cultural event has become an important part of educational work aimed at preserving and popularizing the spiritual heritage of the outstanding son of the Kazakh people.
During the tour, the staff got acquainted with Abai's biography, his philosophical views, literary heritage and contribution to the development of national identity. The participants were especially impressed by the exposition, which recreates the atmosphere of the 19th century - the time in which the great thinker lived and worked. The yurt, decorated taking into account historical details, allowed a deeper feeling of the life of the Kazakh people and the values that Abai sought to convey to contemporaries and future generations.
- Such events contribute to the formation of patriotism, respect for the culture of the native land and the strengthening of spiritual continuity between generations, - said the head of the institution Kuat Araonov.
On June 30, a summer sports day started at institution No. 35 - and it began with a real combat match!
The TChE-14 teams and the convict team - 10 players each - spent two halves of 25 minutes. The final score is 11:10 in favor of TChE-14.
But this match is not just numbers and goals. It was emotion, a fighting spirit and genuine respect. One of the players scored the decisive goal in the last minutes, and the stands exploded with support - about 100 spectators did not get tired of getting sick and believing in their own.
"For me, this match is a chance to start a new page in life," one of the participants shared.
It's not just the team winning here. Here man wins - over himself, over the past, for the sake of the future.

On February 21 at 11:00, the Head of the Department of Penitentiary System for Karaganda Region and Ulytau Region, Colonel of Justice B.E. Shakirov, held an online reception on a personal issue with relatives of convicts.During the event, personal appeals of citizens concerning the employment of convicts, medical care, as well as amendments to Article 297 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan were considered. During the reception, comprehensive explanations and answers to questions of interest were given.
Holding such meetings helps to strengthen the openness and transparency of the penitentiary system, and also allows for prompt resolution of pressing issues of concern to relatives of convicts.The Department continues to work to ensure the rights of convicts and their social adaptation within the framework of current legislation.
“We strive for an open dialogue with citizens in order to promptly respond to their requests and clarify all issues related to the penal system,” noted Colonel of Justice Bekbolat Shakirov.
The final of the popular entertainment game "KVN" among convicts was held in the institution #31. This event became a real holiday, which brought together many spectators and participants. The jury included the chief specialist of the educational work department of the UIS department, lieutenant colonel of justice E. Beisekeyev, the chief specialist of the Akim's Appartment of the village of Dolinka in Shakhtinsk D. Bortnik, a teacher of the RSU College #1 at the institution #31 S. Eremeeva, a teacher of the secondary school #10 of the Akimat of Shakhtinsk at the institution #31 S. Pavlenko.
For convicts, KVN is not just a game. It is an opportunity to go beyond the usual everyday life, to express yourself, to laugh and to feel the support of others. Three strongest teams made it to the final: "Tired of the Regime", "Trudyaga" and "Bigus", which confidently passed the qualifying stages.
Preparations for the final were serious – the convicts enthusiastically came up with jokes, staged skits, and composed their own songs. Episodes from the daily life of the detachment came to life on stage, humorous sketches caused laughter and applause from the audience, and the jury appreciated the acting skills and originality of the numbers.
“KVN in our colony is not just entertainment, but an important part of educational work,” noted the head of the department, Major of Justice N. Kudryashova. “Such events help to reveal creative potential, develop team spirit and form an active life position in convicts.”
The winner of the final game was the Bigus team. One of its participants, convict A., shared his impressions: “It was incredible! We were able to escape from the daily routine, express ourselves, feel the support of the audience. KVN united our team, we worked as one. Such events motivate, help to develop and remind that life goes on.”
The main goal of educational work lies in such initiatives – to give convicts the opportunity to reveal themselves, learn to interact with others and, perhaps, take a new look at life. Laughter is not only an emotion, but also a powerful tool for changing consciousness. And even if the walls of the colony limit the space, they certainly cannot restrain sincere humor and the desire to move forward.
Convict Kirill got married in Institution No. 61. However, you can't count on a lavish ceremony with a hundred guests. It's easy to guess that getting married in a pretrial detention center is not like a regular wedding. You can't choose a registry office and invite all your relatives and friends. The general procedure for registering a marriage is applied here with restrictions.
Kirill is serving a sentence for theft, he has about a year and a half left on his sentence. The young couple have already made plans for life after his release.
- My wife and I lived in a civil marriage for 2 years, I couldn't even imagine that our wedding would take place in a pretrial detention center... She always dreamed of a lavish celebration, a white dress and many invited guests. After my release, I will definitely fulfill my beloved's dream, - said Kirill.
Also, after the convict got married, the administration of the institution provided a pay phone for his relatives. Kirill used the pay phone to call his mother first. Kirill's mother was very happy and congratulated her son with tears in her eyes. A mother is a person who can replace everyone, but no one can ever replace her.
Psychologists of "Institution 33" of the State Penitentiary Service of the Karaganda Region and the Ulytau Region held an unusual event - pet therapy aimed at helping and relieving the emotional stress of convicts. This method, based on the interaction of humans with animals, has proven its effectiveness in working with people experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties.
Pet therapy is a method of correctional work that involves animals. Most often, dogs, cats, horses or even small rodents are used for such programs. Interaction with animals helps reduce stress levels, develop communication skills, improve emotional state and increase trust in others.
Therapy in the institution was carried out using cats and dogs. Psychologists noted positive changes in the participants. The level of aggression and anxiety has noticeably decreased, many have become more open to communication. Animals helped create an atmosphere of trust, which contributed to deeper interaction with psychologists. In addition, the convicts developed a sense of responsibility and empathy, because animals require care, attention and a friendly attitude. These qualities are especially important for reintegration into society after serving a sentence. "Pet therapy is not only an innovative approach in psychological work, but also an important step in the humanization of the penal system. Interaction with animals allows convicts to feel like part of society, which in the future can help them more successfully adapt to life outside the institution," shared the deputy head of the institution, Lieutenant Colonel of Justice Bakhytzhan Akhmetov.
Cinema therapy plays a significant role in the process of rehabilitation and social adaptation of convicts, contributing to the formation of moral values, emotional response and new perspectives. Thus, on 06.01.2025, in institution # 35 of the State Penitentiary Service of the Karaganda Region and the Ulytau Region, with the participation of employees of the Saryarka cinema, the film "Peyish" was organized and shown for convicts. "The film, demonstrating the power of maternal love and faith, did not leave anyone indifferent and evoked a deep response from the convicts. Many remembered their mothers, realized the importance of family ties and life values. For some of them, watching it became so emotional that they could not hold back their tears," said Deputy Chief Lieutenant Colonel of Justice A.K. Metzhanov. The film conveyed an important message: kindness and openness, regardless of nationality, can unite people and help overcome any difficulties.
In Institution №36 of the State Penitentiary Service of the Karaganda Region and the Ulytau Region, a meeting was held with employers, where the results of work on the employment of convicts at counterparty facilities were summed up and a work plan for 2025 was developed. In 2024, the institution concluded bilateral agreements with 6 representatives of small and medium businesses. To date, they continue to work with 5 facilities: Zhelezobetonny Partner LLP, Karaganda Stroy Konstruktsiya LLP and APK Volynsky LLP, KURPICH LLP, Asia Stroy LLP, where 75 convicts are employed. "We express our gratitude to the managers and representatives of small and medium-sized businesses that have signed an agreement with Institution No. 36 for their cooperation and contribution to the employment of convicts. Employment of convicts gives positive results not only for the penal system, but also for organizations. Thus, thanks to cooperation with the institution, vacant positions have been filled and the volume of production has increased," noted the acting deputy head of the institution, Major of Justice Vitaly Aleksandrovich Baynov. The minimum security institution employs 100% of convicts, which allows convicts to receive wages, pay claims, and also gives them the opportunity to help their loved ones and benefit society.
To urge young people to serve in the bodies of the penitentiary system of the region, trips to the districts and cities of the Karaganda region are organized. The first location was the city of Abai. In the building of the local recreation center, the deputy head of the regional Department of the penal system, Colonel of Justice Yerlan Apakhanov, spoke to the youth of the city. He spoke about the advantages of working in the penal system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan: prestigious service on guard of law and order, decent wages, provision of housing during the period of service, preferential calculation of work experience, free uniforms, as well as a solid package of social support. More than 100 representatives of local youth came to participate in the event.
Work in the penal system requires complete dedication, sometimes risk - therefore, the state takes care of the maximum security of employees.
In addition, for those wishing to get an education at the Kostanay Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs named after Sh. Kabylbayev, a teacher at the Department of General Legal Disciplines, Police Captain Beksiltan Sindet spoke about the advantages of studying at the Academy, as well as about the criteria for admission, where training is completely free.
The meeting was attended by deputy heads of penal institutions, who spoke about working with convicted persons, about the principles of resocialization and return to society, and also spoke about the support of young people who want to serve the state.
The second location was the city of Shakhtinsk, where more than 150 local residents arrived, including graduates and heads of local schools.
"Career guidance work is carried out by MIS employees on an ongoing basis. New exits to the districts and cities of the region are planned. The main message is the same - the prestige and demand for the profession, opportunities for professional growth for both boys and girls. Today, about every fifth employee of the penal system of the Karaganda region is a woman who, along with men, has a difficult but honorable service in the penal system, "said Lieutenant Colonel of Justice Aliya Kusainova, head of the department of educational and personnel work of the DUIS.
