For 3 years, foreigners were afraid to admit to their parents that they were in a colony in Kazakhstan

Two 25-year-old foreign citizens who were sentenced to three years and six months in prison for causing bodily harm are serving their sentences in a medium-security prison in the Abai region.
During the conversation, the convicts admitted that they had come to Kazakhstan from another country several years ago to get an education and build a decent future. Their main dream was to return home with a diploma and meet the expectations of their parents. However, fate decreed otherwise — instead of the long-awaited meeting with their loved ones, they ended up in prison. For three years, the convicts did not dare to inform their parents about the incident, fearing condemnation and the fact that the closest people would turn away from them.
The story of the young people did not leave the staff of the institution indifferent. After the psychological diagnosis, the specialists began work on restoring the lost family ties. Psychologists, together with the staff of the educational service, established contact with the relatives of the convicts, explained the situation in detail and organized a video call.
After three years of separation, the long-awaited meeting of parents and sons took place. During the video call, no one could contain their emotions. For the first time, parents found out where their children were, and the convicts had the opportunity to ask for forgiveness and hear the most important words of support. For the young people, this meeting was a turning point, giving them hope and faith that they could change their lives.
- When I got here, I was most afraid that my parents would never be able to forgive me. These thoughts haunted me. But after our conversation, I realized that no matter what, they still love me and are waiting for me at home. Yes, I didn't live up to their expectations, and I have a lot to fix. Now I know what's expected of me, which means I have something to change for. I will do my best to walk this path with dignity, improve myself and meet my family as soon as possible," the convict shared.
- The restoration of family ties is one of the most important areas of psychological and educational work with convicts. The support of relatives has a huge impact on a person's emotional state, helps him realize the consequences of a crime, strengthens motivation to correct and return to a law-abiding life. Each such meeting is backed by the painstaking work of the institution's staff, and it is especially important for us to see how it helps people regain hope and self—confidence," said the institution's psychologist, Kuralai Iksanova.

A concert of the Shamshyrak ensemble was held in the women's penal colony in the Abai region

In the women's penal colony in the Abai region, a concert program was held with the participation of the Shamshyrak ensemble of the Semey City House of Culture. The creative meeting was organized as part of cultural and educational work aimed at the spiritual and moral support of convicts, the development of cultural values and the creation of a positive atmosphere.

The Shamshyrak Ensemble, operating at the Semey City House of Culture, has been actively engaged in creative activities for more than two decades. The collective was established in 2001 and provides cultural, spiritual and educational services to blind and visually impaired citizens, bringing together talented performers and proving that creativity knows no boundaries.

The artists have prepared a rich program for the convicted women, which includes folk, patriotic and pop songs by Kazakhstani composers. The sincere performance, sincere atmosphere and warm communication found a lively response from the audience. Each song was accompanied by prolonged applause, and many listeners sang along to familiar melodies with excitement.

       - Such concerts give hope and help to take your mind off everyday worries at least for a while. Today's performance touched me to the core. We felt the attention and support. Such meetings remind us that kindness, music and human involvement can inspire positive changes," the convict shared.

           - Our band was created in order to bring light, hope and spiritual support to people through music. We are convinced that art is capable of uniting people, inspiring them and helping them overcome life difficulties. Today it is especially important for us to give a piece of warmth to those who need support and faith in the best. If our creativity has helped at least one person to feel hope and desire to change their life, then we have achieved our goal," said Marat Aliaskar, founder of the Shamshyrak Club.

At the end of the event, the administration of the institution expressed gratitude to the creative team for the high level of performing skills, caring attitude and contribution to cultural and educational work. Holding such events contributes to the spiritual development of convicts, the formation of humanistic values and is an important part of the process of their social adaptation.

More than 30 convicted women in the correctional institution of the Abai region received diplomas of secondary special education

A solemn ceremony of awarding diplomas to graduates of the technological college was held in the women's penal colony in the Abai region. More than 30 convicted women have successfully completed their studies and received diplomas in secondary special education.

The training was conducted by convicts aged 24 to 57 years. They have mastered the professions of "Seamstress" and "Cook" that are in demand on the labor market. During the school year, the students not only studied theoretical subjects, but also acquired practical skills that would help them successfully find a job and start an independent life after their release.

A special highlight of the event was the exhibition of works by graduates who studied in the specialty "Seamstress". The guests were presented with products made by their own hands during the training period. Each job became a confirmation of the acquired skills, creative approach and responsible attitude to the chosen profession.

          — Vocational education opens up new opportunities for convicts. Our task is to create conditions under which a person, being released, will be able to provide for himself and his family with honest work. The acquired profession increases the chances of successful employment, promotes social adaptation and reduces the risk of reoffending.              Obtaining professional education in correctional institutions is an important part of the process of resocialization of convicts. Mastering sought-after professions allows them to adapt to life in freedom faster after their release, find work and build their future based on a law-abiding lifestyle," said Anar Sabiyeva, Deputy head of the institution.

             — I am 57 years old. For a long time, I lived without thinking about the consequences of my actions. I have a son, a daughter, and beloved grandchildren, but it wasn't until I was here that I truly realized the value of family, freedom, and honest work. I'll be free very soon. I want to work, earn money on my own, and delight my grandchildren with gifts, and become a grandmother they will be proud of. I am sure that the profession of seamstress that I got here will be the first step towards a new life for me," the convict shared.

The Jas Tarlan payphone card system has been introduced in the maximum security institution of the Abai region

A modern system of Jas Tarlan payphone cards has been introduced in the maximum security institution of the Penal correction System in the Abai region, which allows convicts to keep in touch with relatives and friends in accordance with the requirements of the penal enforcement legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The new system has greatly simplified the process of using telephone communication. Now relatives of convicts can remotely replenish the balance of a payphone card, and its owners can independently control the balance of funds and view the transaction history through an electronic service.

The Jas Tarlan payphone card is a modern digital tool designed for telephone communication in institutions of the penitentiary system. The service ensures transparency of financial transactions, eliminates the need to transfer cash and allows relatives to replenish the card account at any time without visiting the institution in person.

            — The introduction of modern digital solutions is aimed at improving the quality of services provided. Creating comfortable and transparent conditions for maintaining socially useful relationships is one of the important tasks of the penal system. The use of modern services makes it possible to make the telephone communication process more convenient for both convicts and their relatives," said the head of the institution, Aydin Kalelov.

         — I come from Almaty. Only my mother is waiting for me at home, she is 76 years old. Due to her age and long distance, she cannot often come to me for long dates, so telephone communication is very important for us. Now mom can remotely replenish my card balance, and we have the opportunity to communicate much more often. It's very convenient for our family," the convict shared.

The introduction of the Jas Tarlan system has become another step in the digitalization of penal institutions. The new technology contributes to the creation of more convenient, open and modern conditions for maintaining socially useful relationships between convicts and their loved ones, which is one of the important factors of their social adaptation and successful re-socialization.

The issues of employment of convicts were discussed in the women's colony of the Abai region

A round table was held in the women's penal colony in the Abai region with the participation of the prosecutor of the Zharminsky district and representatives of small and medium-sized businesses.

The main topic of the meeting was the employment of convicted women and the creation of new jobs for them. The participants discussed the possibilities of attracting entrepreneurs to cooperate with the institution and further develop their production activities.

Today, the colony has a convenience store, a bakery and semi-finished products workshop, a greenhouse and a sewing workshop.

The facility houses more than 200 convicted women, of whom about 130 are employed. They are engaged in sewing clothes, growing vegetables, producing bakery products and semi-finished products. The manufactured products are in demand in various districts of the region.

         - Today it is important not only to provide convicts with work, but also to give them the opportunity to acquire practical skills that will be in demand after their release. Every workplace created is a contribution to the successful social adaptation of a person. We are ready for further cooperation with entrepreneurs to expand production and increase the employment of convicted women.  The main purpose of such work is to give convicts the opportunity to work, acquire a profession and successfully adapt to life in society after serving their sentences," said Anar Sabiyeva, Deputy head of the institution.

During the round table, the participants also discussed the prospects for expanding production areas and attracting new business representatives to cooperation. The development of such projects will create additional jobs, increase the employment of convicted women and provide conditions for their successful preparation for their return to society.
