In the Abai region, a conflict in a dormitory led a student to 220 hours of community service
A 20-year-old resident of Semey is serving his sentence under the supervision of the Urdzhar district probation department after he was found guilty of causing harm to his friend.
The incident occurred during the period when the young man studied at one of the higher educational institutions of the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk and lived in a student dormitory. During a meeting with their friend, they recalled past grievances, which led to a verbal conflict between them. Subsequently, the quarrel escalated into a fight, during which the young man struck his friend several blows to the face, causing him harm to health.
The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 220 hours of community service.
The convict was registered with the Urdzhar district Probation service. To carry out his punishment, he was transferred to the akimat of the rural district, where he performs community service as a janitor.
- I'm very sorry about what happened. After that fight, I was expelled from the university, and then I realized that one rash act had ruined all my plans for the future. If I had been able to stop myself in time and not succumb to my emotions, my life would have turned out very differently. Today, I understand that any conflict could have been resolved with words, not force. Now I am conscientiously doing community service, trying to draw the right conclusions and change my life for the better," the convict shared.
- Practice shows that many crimes are committed due to the inability to stop in time and control their emotions. A few minutes of aggression can lead to criminal liability, criminal record, loss of studies or work and significantly affect the future fate of a person. The task of the probation service is not only to monitor the execution of the sentence, but also to help the convict realize the consequences of his actions, draw the right conclusions and return to a law—abiding life. We urge young people to resolve any conflicts peacefully and remember that a rash act can change their whole lives," said Baurzhan Yerdenbekov, head of the Urjar district Probation Department.
